Is she as big as the movies depicted?? Or basically another Frank Lucas.
It seems she was actually pretty big if she actually went and killed Pablo's guys that were even hiding in Barrio Pablio Escobar
I think so. They did a lot more killing and coke was bigger than heroin. I think Frank Lucas is a bit overblown. He was big, but in a smaller pond. The murders rate of the coke gangs in the 80's was insane.
I always assumed Nicky Barnes was the true power in NYC in that era, and that Lucas was just a loudmouth, but I’m by no means well versed in that era’s history.
I believe Frank Matthews was bigger than both of them. American Gangster was probably more Matthews' story than Frank in terms of the scale of his operation and dealings with the Italians. Frank may have well borrowed parts of Matthews' story for his own.
Lucas definitely borrowed from Matthew’s story;
“He led a flamboyant lifestyle, with large sable mink coats, prime seats at major sporting events, luxury vehicles, and regular trips to Las Vegas where he was treated like a king” - Quote describing Frank Matthew.
Sounds exactly like that scene In American Gangster, where Lucas was wearing that massive Mink coat while attending that high profile boxing match, in I think Las Vegas. Lol
That was in ny inside the new madison square garden. Whoever said that quotation about matthews is exagerrating. Firstly he aint gonna expose himself to rivals. Not if you black and in THE BIZ. In 71 his name was already on the radar from a street pov and the cops. but he may as well been a ghost.This guy was low key as far as being out and about. Same with nicky who that movie you mention made him into a black john gotti seeking the cameras and that wasnt like him at all. Why you think the dea or the j. Edgar hoovers dont even got a surveiilance photo for frank matthews?? They just got a mugshot from 68. Its all bullshit brother. its hollywood. Frank lucas got a photo a him wearing the chinchila. Was he at the ali frazier fight? I dont know the answer to that question.

Ah that is actually an excellent point, Lucas’s coat was Chinchila, not even mink. I just never heard of Matthew’s before, so when I went to look it up after after that fella mentioned Lucas was borrowing some of his story, I saw the strong similarities and figured that makes sense. But not sure what match that was I thought it was in Vegas lmao, but going to that fight like that, sitting in those seats was the dumbest thing he ever did.
And I know, the way they portrayed Nicky Barnes was crazy, and who they got to play him was even crazier. Just a little fun fact, no one ever believes me. But there is this homeless man, who has an uncanning resemblance to Nicky Barnes, the guy even claims he’s him. I personally believe it, even though he he’s probably just crazy. Anyone know what happened to him? I know something vaguely about witness protection but any word about where he’s been?
