New York got rid of the death penalty in 2004. Never understood why Massino flipped over that when the last NY state execution was 40 years earlier.

A Mobster Dodged Hit After Hit. His Son Finally Got Him.
Anthony Zottola was convicted of murder-for-hire Wednesday. Prosecutors say he wanted the real estate business of his father, Sylvester, a reputed Bonnano crime family associate.

Because he was 60 y old and doesnt want to spent the rest of his life in a supermax prison, wasnt the first mibsters that with the excuse of be old and dont want to die in prison prefered to flip like Lonardo in Cleveland or Porter in Pittsburgh.

The federal "justice" system isn't constrained by the state that the prosecution takes place in. Federal prosecutors sought the death penalty for Massino in the Sciascia murder and they also did with Basciano. If I'm not mistaken they said that they would pursue it in the Zottola case if they get a conviction.

I've never read of someone in my life trying so hard to get their own family members killed. I can't imagine any lawyer or anybody feeling any type of loyalty to this guy. I mean it's not like his father was doing anything so egregious we heard about it.
