Lupara wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2020 8:39 pm So let's settle this once and for all... Was he Sonny's real son yes or no?

I think he doesn't look a bit like his father while with the other (younger) son you see the resemblance. It also explains Sonny's weakness for the other son, who fucked up in so many ways, while he didn't seem to want to protect Michael. Personally I think he's adopted.
Michael was adopted yes
His first book, quitting the mob, goes into detail about having a different father
I wasn't aware he had admitted it himself. Never seen this being mentioned on the forum.
Jeremy do you have Blood Oath? Can you take a picture of the page where he goes into his father, so we can compare it with Blood Covenant?
I had QUITTING THE MOB
And do not have it anymore.
Also- this was way before all the hype and when I originally read the book it read much different than all later books.
He never said he was inline to be any admin member, but he did run with the "yuppie don" nickname

Also... In his latest interviews.... He does differentiate himself from other ppl bc he "never testified against members" which I assume is true bc that could easily be refutable...

Also, UK what I found very interesting??? He said GOTTI , HBO MOVIE, was the most realistic movie .... In the same breath as VLAD said casino... Very surprised at that

He didn't testify publicly against any members. What he said in his proffer session we won't know until his file gets declassified but if Junior Gotti's no good for what he did then the same should apply to Franzese. Still though, pretty amazing that it's all glossed over today and he gets called "former mob boss" with no utterance of the word "informant." You rarely see Acting Captains called that by the media. When's the last time Gravano, DiLeonardo or Cicale were introduced as "former mob bosses?"

From 1992. Look at the two paragraphs I circled.
1 He claims JF is his biological father.
2 Also refers to him as an informant.
Highlighted yellow: "He was harrassed into the mob by cops looking to nail a Franzese" and then "he joined the mob to please his father." Well which is it already? Was he chased into the mob by cops or did he run into it to follow his father? It can't be both.
3 Michael's Hollywood Wiseguy attire didn't surface until after he flipped and moved to LA. Prior to that he dressed like someone from the village.

Yeah I know vlad has no issues with rats, he’s half a ear himself.. but when he interviews other people he lets it be known that that cooperated and they speak on it, or at leasts asks the question... with Franzese they literally talk about how he walked away from the life without cooperating and a bunch of other lies surrounding Michaels not very stand up history.. it just bothers me that in all these big YouTube podcasts he’s getting lately that not one person has done a little research and confronted him with actual documentation that he did indeed cooperate... it drives me nuts that he goes around telling his “story” and tells it like he stood tall... between that and his fake religious bullshit I personally can’t stand the guy... he’s got scammer written all over him... he reminds me of those peter popoff televangelist preachers that have been busted doing their fake Miracle healings and Selling fucking bottled holy water, and asking his followers for donations so he can get a new private jet to spread the gospel (which he now owns 2 of) and has a fuxking airport in his backyard with his own landing strip.... all paid for by poor saps who thing him touching their forehead and giving him their life savings is going to save them for stage 4 cancer ..

All good points.

I'd call him a marketing genius though. He claims he was a good car salesmen and I believe that. Franzese, like him or not, is someone who has a fair amount of charisma and social skills. It's impressive, right or wrong, that he was able to rebrand himself from informant to mob boss in the span of 10 years. So he likely would have done well in any endeavor. But with the mob angle, people are going to naturally want to be around him and he's used it to his advantage in his post-mob life. The religion angle adds another layer of protectiveness, two things you never press are mobsters and someone's religion, he's got both. He also had a good deal with the FBI, good deals with universities to go around speaking. The guy makes deals, before during and after the mafia. Still doesn't make him Allie Boy's Underboss in waiting, but he's done some impressive business, button or not.

Compare him to say Gravano who lacks Franzese's savoir flair. He turned down a role in the Sopranos and doesn't seem to endear anyone to him like Franzese does. Gravano's podcast I'm willing to bet is at the direction of his daughter and we'll see how it goes. I'd argue though that Franzese has the staying power based on his ability to develop connections in the entertainment industry, which is a weird trait that runs in the Colombos. Watch Night at the Golden Eagle you can see Donnie Shacks starring as an ex-con a few years before he was made Underboss in real life.

Franzese/Gravano provide an interesting contrast. The first is likely the classic charismatic goodfella who'll tell you literally anything (doesn't make it true) and the latter is a sociopath who's story hasn't changed because he doesn't give a fuck. Franzese can change his colors, Gravano can't shed his.

I always like HBO's Gotti. Thought is was one of the best mob films out there. Interesting Franzese feels the same. The only flaw was that I though Assante should have smiled more. Gotti had a modern kind of devil may care charisma. Thought Assante was a bit too serious but excellent nonetheless.

Btw, Casino is a good movie but best mob movie...c'mon. Maybe if Scorcese hadn't spent an hour on Rosenthal making a series of incredibly stupid decisions because he married a hooker, than I would agree. Production is second to none. Would be more interesting if made now, knowing Lefty was an informer the whole time.

In addition, Franzese still insists that it was made in 1975.

Good insight regards Gotti/Assante. Agree.
I thought it was a good movie. Assante, the guy who played Dellacroce.

Lefty was an informant?? Fuck. When did this come out? Was he still alive?

Came out after he died. He was a CI feeding the FEDS information while everyone else got pinched for the skim. No wonder they blew him up.

The guy who played Dellacroce was legendary actor Anthony Quinn, and he nailed it. I believe he may have personally known Dellacroce, he did know Gotti.

Anyone 40 or younger generally thought Casino was the best mob movie as it came out when we were teens. I remember we even gave each other nicknames from the names in the movie. We were too young for Goodfellas when it first came out (I was 10 then) and Casino came out when we were 15 and we had already been driving for 2 years so we thought that was the best shit ever. Of course that was before we knew what all was fact and what wasn't etc. but that's why Casino seems to be the favorite with the younger crowd. Hell for me, The Departed is still my favorite even though it's not a full blown true mafia flick.

Did anyone notice the term "niggardly" in that pic that was posted of the newspaper story? You won't see that used anymore
If I didn't have my case coming up, I would like to come back with you gentlemen when this is over with and really lay the law down what is going on in this country.....
