That was also during the early 90s so it was more like 8 grand in today's money. Still shit though. But we must keep in mind that at that point the North Jersey Crew was decimated with most of the members and plenty of associates imprisoned as a result of the Freselone indictments.

If I remember right, Sodano was a captain by that point and that $4,000 was from all the crew's rackets. Went to the administration in Philadelphia.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 7:58 pm where is the 4k figure coming from? and what it is representing?? Merlino or a capos cut??

Well that was from just the North Jersey crew which, as Pogo said, was in bad shape at the time. The administration would also have the crew's in Philadelphia and South Jersey kicking up to.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:49 pmwow.... that's all the whole admin made....??Wiseguy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:38 pmIf I remember right, Sodano was a captain by that point and that $4,000 was from all the crew's rackets. Now that I think about it, Sodano was actually supposed to be a good earner. If memory serves, that's why they wanted to have him come down to Philly for a meeting about (more money) but he refused. And that's what got him killed.

I figure the admin makes minimum of 30k monthly .... 10 a piece. which isn't a lot.... but that's the gurenteed monthly income. they also get cuts from various things when they come along.

Re: Relationship between Philly and Gambino’s now
I just looked it up and Sodano reduced his money going south from $4,000 to $1,200 a month after Scarfo Sr went to prison, and then stopped sending money altogether. Not sure why he thought he could get away with that.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 10:26 pmya i thought so. thats what i was saying at first. for just ONE crews kick up.... thats not that bad.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 10:17 pmWell that was from just the North Jersey crew which, as Pogo said, was in bad shape at the time. so that 4g was in the 80s not 90s. so it's probably equivalent to 8 or 10 now. thats pretty good....
money wise, when do you think Philly was there strongest?? even tho Scarfo drama happened I think that's the period they made the most

I'm not sure about Stanfa. Maybe Pogo or someone else remembers that. It was Merlino and Natale that Sodano felt he didn't have to pay.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 10:37 pmwas he paying Stanfa?? you said one month after Snr went away so I'm not sure if they were in disarray at that time or not.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 10:30 pmI just looked it up and Sodano reduced his money going south from $4,000 to $1,200 a month after Scarfo Sr went to prison, and then stopped sending money altogether. While the internal fighting, indictments, and defections hurt the family in the long run, they were making a lot of money during the Scarfo era. Besides their own gambling and loansharking rackets they widely enforced the street tax of independent operators. They were also involved in importing P2P (used to make meth). Scarfo also was taking money out of HEREU Local 54 every month (some of which was sent to the Genovese family).

Before casino gambling was legalized there, Scarfo was eking out a living doing small time bookmaking and loansharking, shaking down bars (to keep the union out), and he had part ownership of a couple porn shops.
Legalized gambling made the membership (and dues) of HEREU Local 54 explode. As George Freselone explained, while Scarfo had some companies involved in the initial construction, he gave most of that to the NY families. In turn, he was allowed to control Local 54 and the money from the pension and welfare funds (through Local 54 president Frank Gerace). Though, as I said, he had to share part of it with the Genovese family because they helped him take control of the Local by reaching out to the Chicago Outfit who controlled the International at the time.

the whole meeting arranged by Licata and Skins(nj guys). There was really no relationship between the ny guys and south philly guys until that day.

Re: Relationship between Philly and Gambino’s now
OK this refreshed my memory. The 4 grand Sodano was kicking up was when he was a Soldier. So it wasn't the whole crews take. Sodano stopped kicking up but Tony Piccolo and Patty Martirano finally got him to start kicking up again (around 1990) before Sodano got put on the hit parade. He was promoted to Capo when Stanfa took over and kicked up to him. He went to prison not long after though. When he got out Natale and Merlino had taken over and he refused to kick up or even meet iwth them which is what finally got him killed.
