The supreme court ruled this morning, allowing for expanded sports betting, to be controlled by each state. Huge loss for Vegas and a large win for New Jersey.

I find this mental, if any of you can clear this up for me, you(in the US) currently or before this law was changed don't have a bookies? you cant just walk in and put on an accumulator on the games or wire into the horses or roulette machines? or sit on your phone and gamble away?

I know the mob always used gambling and got prosecuted etc but for some reason always assumed that was heavy closed shop stuff

with this change in law will there be legal bookies for yous then?

If you have to go to a casino to place a bet, I don't think it will hurt the bookies. But if they set up sites it will hurt pretty badly. But still not completely due to credit, taxes, and mostly likely worse lines.

Only way it makes a difference is if they have it at bodegas and corner stores like lotto otherwise its a huge inconvenience to:

1) drive to casino every time you want to make a bet. these gamblers aren't like you and i. they arent just betting on super bowl. they are betting on EVERYTHING.
2) posting up instead of playing on credit and squaring every thursday/friday
3) pay taxes on winnings

biggest problem I see is access. if I have to drive an hour to Mohegan every time I want to bet I'll pass. if it is easy to access i would do it.

Yeah I hope it’s all online and Nation wide so they will let you fire away , from what I saw of Nevada’s legal online wagering was pretty low limits

It's those areas I'm talking about since the discussion is legalized sports betting in relation to the mob, ie the extended NY metro area most of all, as well New England, Philadelphia/South Jersey, Chicago, and South Florida.

A major league sports team executive met with the owner of a bookmaker last week to pitch sponsorship opportunities, The Post has learned. While leagues have looked to grab a piece of the what could become a $10 billion-a-year sports gambling business in New Jersey — mostly through a hoped-for 1 or 2 percent integrity fee attached to each wager — the revelation that individual teams may now be interested in partnerships means in-stadium advertising for bookmakers could be coming down the road.
