I think everyones thinking too deep into the panel and who was acting boss.. When Chin went away it wasn't even close to a life sentence everyone thought he'd be out on the street again. So I think since Chin was away and his protege Bellomo was away the whole point of the ruling panel was every capo basically being their own boss for the time being. Cause if you noticed they had the panel until 2005 and Chin died in December 2005 and right after was when they made the move to make Danny Leo acting boss

and just adding to that im sure Mario Gigante was acting boss since he was family he could get messages from the Chin and relay them to the ruling panel and vise versa.

I found the source on Mario Gigante being acting underboss to acting boss Danny Leo. It was John Bologna, the informant who reported it.

"Bologna continued to feed the FBI about new bosses and underbosses in the Gambino and Genovese crime families, plus a shady group of "Albanians" in 2005 and 2006. Danny Leo became the new Genovese boss in 2006, according to Bologna, with Mario Gigante as his acting underboss."

HK sorry for going a little bit off topic but during the late 60s and eraly 70s i have one Mario and also one Pat Gigante being related (possibly through marriage like brother in law) to Felice DeLucia aka Paul Ricca in Chicago. Do you know anything about these guys being related to the Gigantes in NY, since the Genoveses and Outfit had close relations for almost a century?

I don't know for sure but it does ring a bell with me. I can t say if i read it on one of these forums (somebody posting it) or if I read it in a FBI file. Perhaps somebody else knows? I promise if I'll come across any reference of it when going through files, I'll let you know what I find. Pat Gigante was the younger brother of Mario and Vincent.

What I gather from all of this rotating panel talk is that for a number of years the Genovese's were keeping the seat warm until Barney was out of prison/and off probation/and ready to take over as the sitting boss. I think they were operating with this plan in mind for some time. Am I right?

Wouldnt be surprised if that was the case. Barney would seem like the logical heir apparent for the chin.

Yeah keeping the seat warm for Barney, I can see that. Although didnt they rotate from panel to acting bosses within that time frame, IE, Daniel Leo? Or is that a different time frame?

Okay that makes more sense...I would agree Barney was the guy...but yore talk of all panels when there were actings in between is the part i was confused with

The thing is Barney is obviously the boss it seems and yet has been linked to nothing, yet the Westside has been knee deep in indictments recently. The really are good at insulation even in 2018.

The big bust in 2016 is the only other recent "big" bust but there has been some other indictments like the one with Chris Chierchio and the Bonanno bust with Ernest Montevecchi, both of which happened this year.
