Gravano lied about many things especially he wrote the history of Paul Castellano and he's a white collar criminal and so on. Really, he tried to make a justification for why they broke one major rule about killing a boss. I'm sure he told lies about most of what he said about Castellano trying to show how he's not a real mafioso and Gravano is a real mafioso. Reality is that Castellano had Cosa Nostra in his DNA. Even what Rosario Naimo said about him is always with a great respect.

I'm sure he also lied about John Gotti to put him in a bad light to justify why he testified against him. Same for the things he said about Failla and Marino.

I'm sure he's not so truthful about many other things. If I remember he stated he was on the lam and was arrested the first day he came to meet Gotti after a while and instead it was the second time. Such a small thing but indicates if he lies about something like this then what about bigger things.

I still think Underboss is a pretty good book. When people who know nothing about the mob ask me what they should start with I normally suggest Underboss and Capeci's Gotti Rise and Fall. Gives you some basics to start with. Good for people just entering the genre. I actually find Gravano's take fairly believable compared to other books by mob witnesses(and a lot of law enforcement). And I know people use the ecstasy bust against him, but in Underboss he does specifically say that he never saw a major problem with mobsters dealing drugs. But he claims he did have a problem with them using drugs because then they became unreliable. Take that for what it's worth. But it's not like he ever presented himself as being against making money from drugs.

his events are true ,i did not read it but from what i was told by many ,it is just how sam viewed himself that is at issue..probably because he killed so many people he was close to, he must think the families would say..well sam didn't have a choice or say in it..they hate him because they know him..he set up the hits..

Gravano was a sociopathic greedy liar who set up some people to be killed by whispering lies into Gotti's ear so he could then benefit from it. That's the way I see Gravano. No?

In my opinion, both LoCascio and Sammy Bull are wimps. LoCascio at least had blind unending loyalty. Sammy Bull was a weaselly, conniving wimp.
