I was more puzzled by the depiction of Licavoli in the movie: quite the opposite of his descriptions in books, documentaries, articles etc. In the movie, he looks like the stereotype of an "ambitious clever schemer without scruples", while most of the sources I read say he didn't even want to be boss and Milton Rockman arranged for him to take over (by lying about Scalish's last words about the next boss), so a "dummy" would be put in charge, and he (Rockman) could be the "power behind the throne", since he couldn't be officially made, not being Italian. Also, those weird episodes with Licavoli using stolen credit cards and switching price tags in shops, when he was already powerful and rich....Is this real or just made up on wikipedia for fun and then copied to other articles? Honestly, with actions like that, I wonder how he managed not to ruin his family even quicker than Scarfo and Gotti ruined theirs.Ivan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2017 12:09 pm That movie sucked. Worst case of an excellent cast wasted on shitty writing and direction I've ever seen.
Danny Greene is one of the most overrated mobsters ever. I will concede that he was extremely tough, but other than that there was nothing really special about him as an organized crime figure as far as I know.

Re: Cleveland Family hits after death of Scalish?
Actually, Amil Dinsio got Joey out of the way because Lenny was getting ready to be released from a halfway house after doing his bit for the All American Club Casino bust and Dinsio wanted to curry favor with Bernie "The Jew" Altshuler so he would get more work on bank jobs with the "backing" of Strollo's name. Joey didn't like Amil and his crew because he felt they would attract too much attention because of the 1972 Laguna Nigel, CA bust. Amil did nothing for anybody but Amil. When the FBI went to visit Amil about the Naples hit and they point blank asked him if he did it, he told Agent Stoll to go fuck himself and that he would rot in prison before he gave any info. Amil Dinsio's daughter is a friend of mine, she is a nursing home administrator in Ohio and she has stated that she remembered the night Joey got killed as she was looking for her dad to let him know but he was gone...then she said she found him a few hours later in the basement and he had claimed to her that he was there the whole time. She said it was the first time she realized her father was lying to her. Go figure.Ivan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 6:37 pmWhat FriendofHenry is saying is correct. Amil D'Insio killed Naples on his own without being told to by anyone. He apparently thought it would impress Strollo and make him move up in the underworld. That's probably one of the weirdest motives for a hit I've ever heard, but that's what the evidence points to. Even Strollo himself, who openly admitted to everything (even participating in the Charles Carabbia hit), was adamant that he had nothing to do with the Naples hit.FriendofHenry wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 5:31 pm Amil was always an independent contractor. Neither made or even an associate.
I never heard the tern Capo used when referring to either Lenny or Joey. I always understood they were both the boss of the Mahoning Valley.
Go Figure.
Strollo was never above the rank of soldier "officially", but was roughly equivalent to a capo in power. I think his formal capo might have been Zebo himself, but I'm not sure if that's true or if even Zebo was a capo. What do you think, FoH?
Dwalin all that stuff on the internet about Strollo killing Naples was based on assumptions about what people thought was the "obvious" reason for the hit and was never corrected by those online sources.

@JCB1977 That all makes sense. Especially since Bernie's last "bit" was with Amil when they got tagged for a bank job in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Regarding the Naples hit:
Let's see:
1. Joey was killed on Lynn Rd, which lies in between New Buffalo Rd and SR 165 W (the direct path into Sebring from Beaver Twp, OH
2. Amil Dinsio was a Marine trained Sniper
3. A 1988 Oldsmobile (Identical to make and model of Amil's wife) was spotted traveling on 165 W approximately 20 minutes after neighbors reported hearing shots fired (it takes 32 minutes to drive from Lynn Rd to Sebring, OH)
4. Lenny takes over Mahoning Valley Rackets about a month later after Pittsburgh mobsters get together to find out what happened to Joey. Mike Genovese would have killed Lenny had he even thought that Lenny had something to do with it. (Lenny was still under federal supervision when it happened to Joey). Per wiretaps, Mike G and Sonny Amato thought the world of Joey and his fat envelopes, hence never wanted that pipeline of $$ to stop coming in...and Henry was just bumped by Mike Genovese to be the liason between Pittsburgh-Youngstown. I know Henry sure didn't want Joey's pipeline of cash to stop.
5. Amil & Bernie were two peas in a pod (I actually wouldn't be surprised if Bernie engineered this while Lenny was locked up, Bernie only cared about Bernie and his gambling habits were out of control by this time, with Lenny as sole boss, that meant alot more money for Bernie)
6. Medina, OH hit man Robert Dorler (admitted to the hit on Junior Senzarino in 1980 while locked up in prison, his DNA was found at crime scene) reported this about Dinsio to the FBI in 2001/2002 but died while in prison for another paid hit he was doing time for).
What am I missing FOH?

Re: Cleveland Family hits after death of Scalish?
The only thing that I would add to this is that Bernie's excessive gambling was out of control long before then.
He was big time burglar and invented the roof top can opener to get into the first series of discount clubs before they knew about motion detectors. Bernie and Frankie Lentine made quite a few of these scores together along with a friend of mine not named Henry.
Way back when, Henry told me a story in front of Bernie about the time The Jew was sent to Florida by Jo Jo to rob a jeweler staying overnight in a motel room. Bernie made an easy score and then heard of a big hit and run crap game near by. He brought the pillow case full of jewelry to the game and used it as collateral. Needless to say he blew everything. When he got home Joe instructed him that all of his future scores would go to pay off what he lost. It took Bernie to square up his debt, but that was one of the reasons they kept him around.
