Something very interesting for the true Outfit guys on Operation Silver Shovel in the mid 1990s - the Stier Malone Anderson report on LIUNA includes this anecdote making a connection to the infamous John Christopher being related to Anthony Centracchio- any truth to that?

Christopher was a major player who only cooperated against the politicians/alderman and a rival union delegate (Walter Hoff). If he had permission from Centracchio to wear a wire on a rival Outfit crew's union boss - that is quite interesting.

I also wonder where John Christopher is today - from what I've read, he was a former "Jouster" from the Taylor Street area who became a well-connected Outfit associate riding in limousines and dumping trash all over the west side. Curious if he's really related to Centracchio...

Hoff’s Fall and Mazzei’s Election
The influence of organized crime in the affairs of Local 786 continued after Cozzo was barred from the Teamsters. In fact, it continued through Hoff’s fall from power in 1996. During the mid 1990s, an FBI cooperating witness played the central role in a federal racketeering investigation in Chicago called “Operation Silver Shovel” when he wore a wire to gather evidence against politicians and labor officials he was paying off in order to conduct his illegal operations.34 In an incident that undoubtedly reflected organized crime’s role in Local 786, a confidential source stated that the cooperating witness sought and received permission from Outfit member Anthony Centracchio (an in-law) to wear a wire against 786’s Walter Hoff.35 As noted above, the IRB brought charges against Hoff and he was indicted and pleaded guilty to Operation Silver Shovel charges. If the confidential source’s information is true, then the participation of the Outfit in the fall of Hoff certainly raises the question as to whether Mazzei — Hoff’s “hand-picked successor” — is subject to the influence or control of organized crime.”

Several former Teamsters including two former officers stated that Mazzei’s rise to principal officer of the local was virtually over night. According to these individuals, Mazzei had no background in the industry, but was chosen because he was Hoff’s neighbor and because his sister was dating James Cozzo’s son (Phil). That is Mama Luna’s on Fullerton where Aleman killed someone. It was bookie not paying a tax to the Outfit. Can’t remember his name. Mama Luna’s is still open.

Just comparing it to my own life and career, 15 years is a long ass time and a lot can change in that period. I would tend to agree back in 2010 he probably wasn’t near the top of the pecking order in Elmwood Park. With guys passing and getting older, I’d be willing to buy that he’s the top guy in that crew today.

As far as him being boss? I suppose I see no reason not to entertain the idea. All in all, it just reinforces my point that we have no idea what the hell is going on, especially at the top of the outfit. I have to chuckle, because a month or two ago, somebody made a post saying “I don’t know who the boss is, but it definitely isn’t Fratto”, lol.

The only thing I am sure of is whatever the actual top structure looks like, nobody has it right in terms of who is who. I think there would be some surprises if that info were to ever get out

I agree - that said, you do have the 2016 Frontier indictment that came out looking at Elmwood Park (Gagliano, Cassano, D'Amico) and Fratto's name is not mentioned. As Fosco generally indicated, Fratto always had 'protectors' in the Outfit all of whom were that old guard who died - he was never an earner, never a businessman and never a union guy. The only scams he's been linked to are largely greedy independent things - then a really dumb tax evasion charge, which most Outfit 'bosses' simply don't pull until they go broke (case in point Mickey Marcello...)

I think to Snakes point I would counter - the old guard was Frattos' bread and butter - he was protected by Messino/Cerone and by extension DiFronzo - I tend to wonder if guys like Cassano and Gagliano who are really involved in EP based on recent FBI files are actually in charge and Fratto is just 'on the shelf' of sorts today.

Yup. Mike Carioscia used to cook at Mama Sue’s which was named after his and Tony’s mother, Assunta Del Fiacco. The Carioscias also had a lot of political clout, as they were in-laws of Johnny D’Arco Sr. I posted some nice photos from back in the day in front of Mama Sue’s, including one with Rollie Libonati.

I know that Scott had in the past claimed that Chuckie Russell and his partner David Perez were also “Bishop Boys”, which he claimed his sources told him was a “Hispanic street gang”. I can’t recall ever hearing of any gang called Bishop Boys on the Westside, so this has always been a weird claim to me. The section of Grand Ave east of Damen (the section west of Damen was always C-Notes hood) used to be claimed by the Gaylords and a club called the Lazy Gents. This was back in the 60s and 70s. In subsequent years, there were the SDs on Huron and Elizabeth and the MKs on Huron and Noble, though both organizations did not claim Grand Ave (nobody fucked with the Italians back in the day, everybody knows the rules lol). The only Bishop Boys I ever heard of before was a small greaser club on the Southside (48th and Bishop in Back of the Yards). If there ever was a little crew called Bishop Boys around Grand Ave it never amounted to a real gang and either way, I still never heard of it.

I've seen Russell associated with that "Bishop Boys" name before in other articles and it apparently comes from his recordings?

E.g., the article below where it's given as the name of his 2010s robbery crew, not a "Hispanic street gang."

Gags is mostly in Florida now so not sure I would agree on that unless he’s running it from Florida. Tony is more low key but he still goes out in public. He won’t associate with Gigi. In fact he use to go there but after the entire Paul C. indictment, he stopped and he goes elsewhere.
