The way that the consigliere came to be seen as, basically, a “number 3” in the NYC Families is itself a shift from how this position functioned traditionally in the mafia. This is a symptom, IMO, of increasingly dictatorial powers of bosses in the NY Families. As B noted above, we see that same tendency taken to an extreme with Maggadino. Consiglieri (and in Sicilian Families it was possible for there to be anywhere form 1 to 3 official consiglieri at a time) are supposed to function not just as “advisors” to the boss but as a means of checks and balances against the boss becoming a dictator, helping to ensure that the latter doesn’t run roughshod over the rights and interests of the membership as a collectivity. A powerful and highly respected former boss (and former acting boss) like Accardo was very much in the position of being able to use the respect and influence that he was accorded to support the interests of the Family. Though I would also say that we have little evidence to support that he was in the practice of overruling or interfering with the authority of the boss, who ultimately was, in fact, the executive, apart from exceptional circumstances such as demoting Giancana for dereliction of duty (and we can presume this was a collective decision of the Consiglio rather than just Ricca or Accardo pronouncing a decision to everyone else).

I've been around Todaro at his place, their "showman-restaurateur" characters are similar and Gigi's schtick does feel copied in part from Todaro's. I remember the first time I saw a Gigi video I immediately thought he was like a more manic version of Todaro.

Because they are both public figures and “legit” restaurant owners. They have also been seen with Steve Martorano who is also very public. I’m sure there is some type of partnership or business relationship going on. I wonder if Todaro knows about Gigi’s rape conviction. Nobody seems to care about it besides the people in Burr Ridge trying to close his place down. He was very young when it happened but I did hear some graphic details of the incident and it’s not to pretty. It was more than consensual sex with a juvenile.

Gigi and his brother have no relationship anymore. They despise each other. I thought about Gigi going on Merlino’s show but don’t think it will happen. It’s hard to have a guy come on the show that has been convicted of rape when he tears apart all the snitches for the stuff they been convicted of. I would say Bobby Bellavia would be a good guest considered how he got rail roaded during his trial.

It wasn’t a statutory thing at all, as when the attack occurred in ‘91, Gigi was himself a juvenile. But it was indeed a very nasty thing, apart from him having also been a minor. Ironically, this would put him in the same ballpark as a bunch of mafiosi back in the day, as many of them engaged in similarly violent abductions and gang assaults in their youth. It’s just that by 1991, thankfully, this sort of thing was a lot more frowned upon socially than it used to be. Unfortunately, I can say that when I was a kid during the same time, these kinds of group assaults on girls were not uncommon. I knew of many kids, gangbangers in almost every case, who did this sort of thing with impunity. Hardly any were ever charged with a crime as the girl and her family either didn’t want to be seen as rats, the cops didn’t care or believe them, or they were threatened to keep quiet. This was in Humboldt Park, so there was also just a ton of violent crime of every category happening. But things like this happened with punk kids like this in the suburbs too.

There seems to be a lot more to him that from what I understand. He's basically the same kind of rough gangbanger type guy as Carparelli and Rainone.
