Frankie Hearts, the bombing hurt him pretty bad. Pretty sure he went inactive after that and died 15-20 years later.

I know the logic with Corallo getting locked up and basically saying screw it, you can have it, but still. What a drastic change in leadership (which I think also reflects broadly across all families and is a product of how the times changed, ie Italian assimilation and increase law enforcement pressure).
He didn't say screw it you can have it. He did the right thing and gave up the power to guys he thought were well suited for the job on advice from his trusted Consigliere. You're looking at it in hindsight and judging which isn't fair, at the time they took over Vic & Gas were like the Judge & Soto of the Lucchese family. Forgive my analogy it was best I could think of on the fly but I think it helps make my point.

Furnari and Corallo were involved. Furnari was denied parole on many occasions as a result of his involvement in the DeCicco murder.
Corallo and Furnari must have discussed it which led to Furnari giving the task to Vic and Gas

Corallo chose Amuso over Luongo who was murdered after Corallo was sent to prison which is contrary to public belief that Luongo’s murder was a sneak hit. Casso was not part of the first admin that Amuso had as boss. Eddie Coco and Mariano “Mac” Macaluso were in his admin. Casso was promoted to Capo during this time.

Amuso and Casso both had great reputations on the street which is evident by the fact that Corallo decided to choose Amuso as boss instead of the other notable members around that time. According to John Pennisi, Amuso is well respected

So the previous narrative of;

Buddy Luongo was Corrallo choice hence his murder right after he went to prison is wrong?
Interesting.

So where did Tom mix fit in the equation?

According to D’Arco, Casso told him that Santoro was making a move for the leadership. Santoro plotted against Corallo. He wanted Luongo to take over.

tony ducks orderd luongo murder. santoro was trying a move I think.theres alot of info if you search about it. the craziest part someone posted casso letter to the judge to reduce his sentence. he states at the very end I should have took the 22yr sentence he was offered before he decided to cooperate. he would probaly died home a free man probaly still on shelf but free. and tons of murders would have never been solved or the whole mafia cop shit. plot against gotti ect

i believe half of what darco said. he made it seem like he was the toughest guy in the world. he was casso and amuso's errand boy. he was capo of walnut crew b/c there was nobody else and easily controllable. his book interesting but a lot of puffing and self aggrandizing nonsense. im surprised his son didn't go on youtube. i doubt he is successful wherever he is.

I didn’t get that impression from D’Arco but he did seem as if he was easily irritable and not exactly pleasant and the book points this out during the time he was incarcerated. Somebody who was in with him gave a description of him and it was not positive.

The Walnut was Vic’s bar, D’Arco was captain of the Vario/Canarsie crew. Apples and oranges
