I second this. Would really like to comb through the 302sAntiliar wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 3:07 pmJust a heads up that if you wouldn't mind uploading this to the FBI files section it would be greatly appreciated. 302s are the gold standard of FBI docs and not always easy to find.TSNYC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 11:57 am Wiseguy:
Some of those points stood out to me as well. I think D’Arco was likely close with and friendly with Jimmy Ida who was from little Italy. And it seems likely that Ida had issues with Bellomo even before the issues that arose during their case. If I recall right, didn’t it come out at one point that Ida was planning to kill Bellomo? So maybe that feud developed on the streets.

Agree. Barney's 'charisma', natural 'gangsterism', affinity for the life, chins word etc are all factors.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 5:39 am I’m sure it counts for something but it’s not like a union job where seniority rules no matter what. From all available info it seems like Chin personally anointed Barney so that factor might have overruled Ida’s seniority.
But seniority does count. It's why when a boss dies, the future boss is appointed from the administration or the Captains, not the soldiers.
Ida was clearly made for the life, refused to take a plea, serving life, was consigliere. Clearly a powerhouse in his own right.
Barney would have needed significant support, which perhaps he had, from a large, if not majority of the Captains to outweigh Ida if Ida had pushed for it.
We know Vhin loved Barney, but was this universal among the Capos as well. And loved enough to outpower a much more senior figure.

If Chin didn't trust Ida, he'd have been found in a trunk.

6) Nicky the Blond Frustaci was placed with Jimmy Ida to watch him for Vincent Gigante. Frustaci has discussed that with D'Arco, "Vinny put me to watch Jimmy Ida. That's my job."
What do you make of that?

I assume this was when Ida was a Capo?
And if this was the timeline then clearly Chin did trust him as he was upped to consig.
How'd I do?

Re: D’Arco info
Think the consig has one soldier who is direct with him. Christy tic had gas pipe. There's a few other examples can't remember. But for the boss to choose the consig guy is interesting. I'm sure they were close anyway.
Re: D’Arco info
Whacking a stand-up guy - no bueno. Doesn't ring well on the street, basically you're sending out message that anyone is expendable. Also Chin may have been slick but he doesn't strike me as a Casso-psycho type to get rid of anyone with the slightest sign of ambition. Guys like Ida - you need them near you. Assign him a role to partly satisfy his ambition, make good use of a capable guy and "have your enemies closer".

Was this the case with Frustaci?

Yet he wasn't killed. Even though Chin didn't trust him. Does that quote make sense?SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 11:15 amWe don't break our capos, we kill them.axx wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 11:02 am Whacking a stand-up guy - no bueno. Re: D’Arco info
Sonny you’re just making an assumption of a promotion that’s all. You could be right but you could also be wrong. I lean the other way based off info that Chin was placing people in his crew to watch over him while he was a captain, the inference being he didn’t fully trust Ida. The Persicos made Wild Bill the Underboss you think it’s because they really really trusted him?SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 10:42 amConsigs don't have crews.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 10:29 am 6) Nicky the Blond Frustaci was placed with Jimmy Ida to watch him for Vincent Gigante. You’re speculating like the rest of us that’s how you did.
Re: D’Arco info
Ida could have been voted in as Consiglieri
Re: D’Arco info
And hundreds of guys had more seniority to Barney in that time period
