No they don't. The five families do more business in Jersey than even the Decavalcantes.

I don’t think it can be said that the DeCavalcantes have a larger recruitment pool than any of the 5 families but there is certainly no shortage of Italians in New Jersey.

Weren't they estimated to have fifty members and fifty associates at one point?

In a 2004 crime report on crime in New Jersey are listed 40 made men in and out of prison and 50 associates.

Are there any current estimates of associates?

I'd say your average made guy has 2-3 officially on record associates. And then infinity hanger on type of associates.

The DeCavalcantes were like the Sicilian mafia in that they had a very low number of official associates per member. Outside of the Brooklyn-Staten Island group I don't think the Jersey or Manhattan-Queens guys really had full-on crews of associates like we see in other Families outside of male relatives. Sam DeCavalcante had a lot of associates around him but it's kind of murky because you have guys like Bernie Furst who was treated "like a member" of the DeCavs but was actually a Genovese associate who helped run Sam's businesses.

There are some guys like Fat Andy and Bruno Facciolo who had 10,15 even 20+ associates. Not sure if there are any guys like them out there today but in the heyday if you had the charisma and money making ability like they had you could rack up a quite large number of guys under you.

Gene Borrello said that when he was proposed he had about twenty guys he was eventually going to put on record.

I thought he said he told Ronnie he had 4 guys he wanted to put on record and John Gotti's grandson was one of them.

There were four people he wanted to put on record as soon as he got made, but there were about twenty people he was eventually going to add to his crew.

Also, John Riggi’s son-in-law Sean Richard. He was very connected for being only an associate, right?
