I don't think Leo stepped up as a strategy taken from the 'Ndrangheta, but as a tradition. Would make sense for the Rizzutos to continue a family based leadership since they've always made connections and recruited through family ties or marriage.. Most notably in touch with the old country sicilian tradition, different from families like New York Five who recruit loosely. Wouldnt put it past if they were to take influence from the Ndrangheta though.

oh my god this is so confusing. I don't understand what they fighting about. if someone wants to make bullet points I;d love that.

it seems as though these guys have unlimited money--why don't they just hang it up but i know the answer to that. all the honor, destiny, all that happy horseshit.

They can pay former navy seals or blackwater type ppl. the rizzuto immediate family has at least 100-200M?

I cannot imagine living like these ppl
Q: What doesn't work when it's fixed?

If they are 20 made members, it's a very optimistic figure IMO

We don't know yet what is the cause of these recent murder attempts (Del Balso, Rizzuto, Barberio, ...)

Vendetta is a real thing for Sicilians - it’s the same story told over and over

It is very interesting to see how new rounds of violence break out in Montreal every few years, the way they're related, and the way they're different. Multiple different conflicts (i.e., Montagna-Di Maulo-Desjardins vs Rizzutos, Montagna vs Desjardins, Scoppas vs Rizzutos, whatever's going on now with Barbieri, Del Balso, and this) and the misunderstandings that arise when attempts are made to condense them into one long battle stemming over 15 years

When we wonder about where this comes from more than who's doing the shooting, it seems like its either a rival mafia faction such as Mirarchi/Desjardins/etc, bikers, or maybe even the top guys under or with them/the table. Who am I missing as a possible source? Interested in everyone's thoughts...and who the fuck sits at "the table?!" I always read that term Italian factions not firmly under Rizzuto kntrol...but who's left?

i don't think so, there are lawyers also inside sicilian mafia
Yes, I don't think they are correct just saying this is purely a trait of those in Calabria. I think to be an attorney would also fit in any other branch of OC - Camorra, 'Ndrangheta, Cosa Nostra and even Appulian groups. It is not region specific.

Where did you get those numbers from? All those guys spend money like it’s water and always end up having to come back to the well. I doubt they have anywhere near 50m in the bank forget about 200.

If only someone would flip and tell the entire story dating back to Vito’s arrest…..

It would instantly make the best mob movie of all time!

Attempted murder of Leonardo Rizzuto: police expect violent response
https://www.journaldequebec.com/2023/03 ... e-violente

Theory 1:
The first hypothesis is formulated around the revenge that the kingpin Raynald Desjardins maintains against the Rizzuto clan. Since December 2011, a dozen of his friends or associates, including his ex-brother-in-law Joe Di Maulo, have been victims of settling of scores suspected of having been sponsored by the Sicilian clan. At 69, Desjardins is intimately linked to the Calabrian mafia. During an initial release in 2021, investigators found him escorted by a bodyguard in possession of registration numbers linked to vehicles of members of the Rizzuto clan.
Theory 2:
The second hypothesis revolves around an attempt by Calabrian Vittorio Mirarchi to wipe the name of the Rizzutos off the map. Mirarchi was also the protege of Raynald Desjardins, but the strength of his support in the 'Ndrangheta in Ottawa and Toronto made him an extremely powerful criminal. He and Raynald Desjardins are now free after serving time in prison for planning the murder of would-be godfather Salvatore Montagna in 2011.
Theory 3:
For the time being, the leadership of the mafia is weakened, note our sources. Leonardo Rizzuto is challenged, while the other boss of the Sicilian clan, Stefano Sollecito, is very ill. But the option of not putting up any resistance would mean “sullying the name of the family”, they believe.
