Wild to me how. much. money. these guys made bookmaking back in the day. Looks like we know what everyone did in the days before cell phones So many guys were able to afford really beautiful homes - some of them palaces - and all seemed to be primarily bookmakers.
I wonder how many descendants from the SJ/SF crews are forever cursing their forefathers for flipping - these guys would be legit millionaires via real estate.
So the cost of living must be much higher? For example a union ironworker where I live makes 38/hour not including the benefits. So it'd probably be what 60/hour out there?
I just can't see how middle to even middle to upper middle class make a legit living out there... I never been to Cali for leisure or work related I just don't see how there is not a housing collapse coming about in that state.

It's why Californians have been flooding into Texas, Utah, Idaho, etc like locusts for the past several years and screwing things up for those states.

I lived in California for 4 years, believe me, it is definitely true. Real Estate out there is uber expensive, especially San Diego. I live in Mass and its uber expensive here but California is ridiculous.
Street view for the old SD Little Italy neighborhood (which had a significant concentration from Santa Flavia), where Bomp started out when he arrived from Milwaukee, is bananas. Crazy level of development, hard to even imagine what it looked like back when it was an Italian neighborhood.

When he died in 1980, he was living at 5966 Finkman St in STL; Giordano was reported as living there since at least 1973. Not sure how the neighborhoods of STL are laid out, but the two address are in completely different parts of town (all I know is that the historical Italian colony was “The Hill”, which is closer to the Finkman address than the Roland address).
The one-time home of Ignazio Antinori, boss of the Tampa Mafia before he was murdered in October 1940. The house remained in the family for some time - including his two sons Pual and joe, both involved in narcotics operations with Kansas City. Joe was murdered in Nov 1953.
The current owner invited me over for a tour of the house last year. It is a beautiful house.

This was Michaels’ address when his wife Dorothy died of a barbiturate overdose in 1967, and I believe it was still his address when he was famously murdered in a car bombing while driving on an area expressway in 1980, less than three weeks after Giordano died of natural causes.
The longtime home of Tampa mobster Steve Scaglione, son of Salvatore Scaglione. THis home is located in Ybor City and others on this street included Primo Lazzara (house no longer there) and Frank Diecidue.
Santo Trafficante Jr used to live in a modest ranch-style home on this property, in this neighborhood of Parkland Estates in South Tampa. After his widow passed away, his daughters sold the home, located on two lots, for $900K. The builder split the property into two lots and built two McMansions.
One photo is of 1033 Montague Street, Rockford, which was the home of Paul Giovingo. Giovingo tried to take control of the illicit alcohol racket from Tony Musso who was the clear leader. Musso and his men had already murdered Paul’s brother Joe on August 14, 1930 which caused incredible tension between the two camps. Paul Giovingo left his home on the evening of February 11, 1933 and was half a mile away in the 1200 block of South Winnebago Street when a large sedan forced his car to the curbing and bullets poured forth. As Giovingo lay dying behind the steering wheel, someone exited their car and administered the “kill shot” to Giovingo’s head.
The other newspaper clip is the casket of Giovingo descending from the steps of 1033 Montague Street on the day of his funeral.

Chuck Teemer was "with" the Mannarino's, he ran gambling clubs for them around Pittsburgh and was the main front at Club 30 in Chester, WV under Jo Jo Pecora.
