I'd put money that thats the best guess we have so far.JohnnyS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:29 pm It looks to me that Cali's official rank was underboss but he was viewed as the real power on the streets and it's similar arrangement to what we have now with Mannino. He replaced Cali as underboss but is viewed as the real leader even if he doesnt have the title according to Capeci.

The cali / Cefalu situation was just like the Crea / Madonna arrangement and both had official bosses rotting in prison doing life. Makes me think of the sopranos and the way Tony kept uncle junior as boss to keep the pressure off himself. Seems like the best way to run a family in some cases is to let your power speak louder than your rank.JohnnyS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:29 pm It looks to me that Cali's official rank was underboss but he was viewed as the real power on the streets and it's similar arrangement to what we have now with Mannino. I just made a comparison. Every doc and photo in this article was in the file I uploaded from the FBI Vault. It doesn't contain any new information.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:08 pmIt looks like they got more than what was posted on the vault. Maybe they'll update it, but sometimes the FBI releases more to requesters than what gets released on the vault.

What kind of relationship? I know Cali's mother, Agata Scimeca, was from Ciminna, but I never found any blood relation.B. wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 4:46 pm Wonder if the FBI was aware of his relation to Sal Catalano. One of the Navarra brothers married Catalano's niece and Navarra's cousin Frank Fiordilino was told about the relation by Cali himself when they met socially.
To me that's as big as the Bellomo / Majuri relation.

No idea myself -- it came up because they talked about Navarra's marriage to Catalano's niece.felice wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:20 pmWhat kind of relationship? I'd forgotten about that, it's a good point. Presumably the government's identification of Cali's rank would come from information from within the Gambino family. I couldn't find the detention memo but I did check the sentencing memo and you're right, they describe Cali as a "high ranking member".

Paranoia and fear can keep you safe like being scared and going to war for the first time. It keeps you more vigilantJohnnyS wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 6:30 amYeah and we know that Cali was paranoid of investigations.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 7:38 pmThe cali / Cefalu situation was just like the Crea / Madonna arrangement and both had official bosses rotting in prison doing life.
