I found this today, from a source was interviewed in June 1975 and looked through a "Bonanno Family Album".B. wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 4:10 pm His nephew wrote a book where he says John Bonventre recruited Giaccone into the Bonanno family. He says Giaccone's mother came from Castellammare like Bonventre. I know Giaccone's father was from Sciacca (like the Indelicatos) but haven't verified the info about the mother.
The nephew is unfortunately a major bullshitter. While he is a relative of Giaccone, he makes many questionable claims in the book so it's hard to gauge what's accurate and what's not.
I do know Giaccone was a member of a street gang in Queens and accidentally shot himself when he was young, so he was criminally active at a young age.
Hahaha that’s a pretty classic story. Jesus how many bodies does basciano have.. guy had 0 hesitation when it came to getting his hands dirty even as a wealthy captain.. even the hit on the neighbor who threaten to kidnap his kid was insane.. he had no qualms about it. Just grabbed his shotgun and waited for the guy and blasted the shit out of him. I heard cicale didn’t even hit the guy once lol..sharpieone wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 8:25 pmchubby wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 5:26 pmI’m not sure but I’ve heard that patty literally couldn’t earn to save his life.... from patty’s side I think he held a lot of jealousy against basciano... someone younger, in the same area, who’s well respected and is a pretty monster earner both legit and illegal...SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:38 am Anyone know the reason for the falling out between Patty DeFillipo and Basciano?
They both wanted to clip the other so there must be a story there somewhere.
Personally I think Basciano is doing his time so ‘easily’ is he probably thought he was going to get life in the Blue whatever Heroin trial and when he got acquitted everything post that was a bonus.
Patty used to badmouth Vinny to Joe Massino. Said he was not a good choice as acting boss. IDK how much of a rift this next story actually led to, but back in 1985 Vinnie and Patty teamed up to shoot a rival numbers runner. Vinny was nabbed running from the scene. The victim initially ID'd Vinny in a lineup but changed his story later on. All the while, Patty was too fat to get out of the car and stayed put. Vinny originally skated on it, but was convicted of the attempted murder in 2006. Vinny is the shooter, runs away, and his boss is too fat to get out of the car? I can see how that'd stick with you.
Yeah, I remember that from Sal Ferrugia's FBI file (I think you probably shared the file), but the name was redacted. Glad you got it unredacted so we know for sure.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 2:39 pmI found this today, from a source was interviewed in June 1975 and looked through a "Bonanno Family Album".B. wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 4:10 pm His nephew wrote a book where he says John Bonventre recruited Giaccone into the Bonanno family. Chaps actually posted the Ferrugia file, I went through and found the page hoping some of what was redacted in Salvo's file(where I pulled the quote from) were unredeacted there but not much. The source was a Salvatore Montello, a quick google search shows he was involved in the JFK rackets so he was definitely around Giaccone.B. wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 3:28 pmYeah, I remember that from Sal Ferrugia's FBI file (I think you probably shared the file), but the name was redacted. Later the same informant refers to John Bonventre unredacted as a "former big boss". He goes on to say Giovanni Bonventre "was a big boss of the Bonanno family at one time, who called all the shots."
I doubt Frank Saggio went through these same FBI files, so seems he might have been right about Phil Giaccone being sponsored by Bonventre.
As for Bonventre being the "boss," we know he was mistaken by other sources as the underboss so there was probably an impression on the street he was a top guy, especially with Joe Bonanno absent and removed from the street.
Any chance to post Salvo's file? I was always interested about this guy and his cousin Nino Busciglio. I belive i have Surveillance of Busciglio all dressed up and with glasses but i waitin for confirmation on ID. I will post it very soon.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:24 pmChaps actually posted the Ferrugia file, I went through and found the page hoping some of what was redacted in Salvo's file(where I pulled the quote from) were unredeacted there but not much. Just posted! Speaking of Busciglio, I asked this when I posted the files but could Nino Busciglio be "Nino" from the DeCavalcante tapes?stevan tod wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 8:03 amAny chance to post Salvo's file?
