Yeah, a source ID'd him as a soldier in Rastelli's decina in the mid-late 1960s. I don't think anything has come out that conflicts with it either.

Do you have a source on that? JD shared a document with me years back where Giaccone is ID'd as a soldier under Rastelli in the 1960s. I had previously assumed he was made in 1976 until seeing the aforementioned doc.
From everything i ever read it seems like sonny red and Phil lucky was bigger earners and held more prestige than massino and sonny black at that time so they was all made around the same time hairy?

Personally I think Basciano is doing his time so ‘easily’ is he probably thought he was going to get life in the Blue whatever Heroin trial and when he got acquitted everything post that was a bonus.

His nephew wrote a book where he says John Bonventre recruited Giaccone into the Bonanno family. He says Giaccone's mother came from Castellammare like Bonventre. I know Giaccone's father was from Sciacca (like the Indelicatos) but haven't verified the info about the mother.
The nephew is unfortunately a major bullshitter. While he is a relative of Giaccone, he makes many questionable claims in the book so it's hard to gauge what's accurate and what's not.
I do know Giaccone was a member of a street gang in Queens and accidentally shot himself when he was young, so he was criminally active at a young age.
