Actually yes. For the most part, he provides clarity on some of the key murders.....

Also, his perspective from the streets is interesting....

But according to the authors, hes a very, VERY bitter, jealous, angry, narcissistic guy. The very act of informing both to police and journalists was some weird power play at maintaining control. An act of vanity, almost, but also self preservation. Almost, a little Scarpa-ish, imo.

And while he provides clarity on some murders, also according to the authors, he obviously lies and obfuscates whenever his involvement comes into question. They said he often tried to reverse the flow of information, as the authors were in communication with Law enforcement's organized crime squads. The Organized Crime Squads even tested the authors, feeding them bulldhit info, to see if they would pass it along to Scoppa, they never did.

In my opinion, he was a high level Montreal street guy, he doesnt allude to any ties to New York, Calabria, or even Ontario, really. And one kinda frustrating thing, he never once mentions the Violis, only maybe indirectly.

In a later Chapter, he does absolve Ndrangheta of any involvement, yet there are cryptic references to "many trips to Ontario", by Montagna, as well as Ontario being Vitos FIRST stop upon leaving prison, I'm jumping ahead......

Great work CabriniGreen.
I would say one core group, but this group wasnt exactly united. They were allies of convienence, who were calculating where their best interests were.

The way it all unfolded, it's much more Savastano than Soprano, in my opinion.

Funny you say that. Seasons 1 and 2 of Gomorrah played out very much like the Montreal conflict in my opinion. Bad Blood did not do any justice.

Montreal needs a Scorcese-esque film.

It was most certainly Montagna who at the very least gave the go-ahead for that hit or the Bonannos from New York through him. According to protocol they should've organised it. Desjardins was in no position to do it unless he was given authorization to do so. At that point everything was still being done according to the rules up until all bets were off and Desjardins killed Montagna.

You really think NY was in on it?

If you believe Cicale, let's revisit his view of Montagna....

With Vinny now calling the shots from his prison cell, Vinny made sure that Michael “Mikey Nose” Mancuso was in full charge on the street. Vinny knew that keeping the power with someone he could fully control was important, and Michael was the perfect puppet.”

However, not long afterwards, Mancuso also was arrested. Vinny then put Sal “The Iron Worker” in charge as acting boss. “Vinny knew Sal was another puppet he could control,” Cicale said.

But word reached Dominick that the family’s old timers did not want Sal in the acting boss slot. They called him the “Bambino Boss” because he was so young and was viewed as lacking the appropriate experience.

Now, think back to Renauds book, when Montagna got popped, someone phoned NY, and there was surprise because they said he was " always dressed", French underworld parlance for being armed, strapped up. Some of what this guy says does track.....

Even Montagna himself was aware of this and started carrying a weapon,” Dominick said. The government was relentless. They ended up deporting Sal back to Canada. The government did not want Vinny to have any control from prison whatsoever.

But when Sal was deported and tried to run things in Canada, he lost focus on his surroundings. He found himself in a no-win situation—a trap. Sal was found shot to death by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. “Last I’d heard was that Sal was entangled in a bullshit turf war
,”

I posted this to illustrate, that Montagna didnt even have full backing in NY, he wasnt able to consolidate his power. He didnt have a crew of his own, so no loyalist. He himself wasnt like, greatly feared, and while charismatic, I dont know if he was WIDELY liked, like really popular, amongst not the Bonnanos, but the other families. He was connected in Sicily, but connected to WHAT exactly? He didnt have big rackets and operations, so other mobsters couldnt really eat with him.

If the NY guys wernt bowing down to him, why would people in Montreal, I mean Montagna didnt even know French, how would he talk to the Bikers? Those people up there were loyal to the dollar.... their own business interest...

Didn't Cicale flip before Montagna was elevated to Acting Boss? Cicale was imprisoned in March 2005 and if I'm not mistaken flipped later that year. Montagna didn't become Acting boss until sometime after Msncuso was imprisoned in February 2006. So how would he know what Basciano thought or what the old timers thought of or called Montagna?

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

He was locked up, not sure if he had already flipped. I guess he was locked up too when supposedly Baldo told him, what allegedly Sal told HIM about Vito being pissed at paying tribute to Basicano. You could be right. I pulled that stuff from Cicales, book? Is it a book?

Chapter 9: Rancor

From Seguin......

As we have met, it is clear that Scoppa feels sorry for his situation and his fate, but, another recurring element, there is also a resentment in him.

The fucking grudge. Scoppa is filled with hatred for many people. This hatred seems to eat away at him. He tenses up and his jaw contracts when he talks about it. Especially when it comes to young Mafiosi, he calls it all names.

Strangely, he expresses hatred towards the Mafia much more often than towards the police. During our meetings, he spoke much more badly of the Mafiosi than of the police.

Among the many mafiosi that he sharply criticizes, there is Raynald Desjardins. “Nicky's murder was the spark that ignited Raynald Desjardins. He wasn't afraid of all these murders. Rather, he thought, "Now is the time to go!" It opened the doors for him.

With Vito imprisoned in the United States and his son Nick murdered, who in the Rizzuto clan was going to be able to scare him? He took advantage of the situation, ”says Scoppa. But if he's telling the truth, Desjardins didn't take advantage for long......

• There is a brief recap on how Dejardins came to be associated with TOC in Montreal through Joe DiMaulo, his brother in-law.....

From Chapter 9......

Born Rénald Joseph Ernest Serge Desjardins on October 2, 1953, in Montreal, Raynald Desjardins was the fifth in a family of six children.

"French Canadian", as he describes himself in a telephone conversation spied on by the RCMP, the caïd was barely 20 years old when he carried out one of his first tasks for the Montreal mafia, at the asks her brother-in-law, Joe Di Maulo, who married his older sister, Huguette.

High-ranking officer of the Cotroni-Violi camp, Di Maulo asks young Raynald to drive him and future godfather Paolo Violi to New York for the election of the next head of the Bonanno family.

A few months earlier, after a second trial, Di Maulo was acquitted of a triple murder that occurred in 1971 at Casa Loma, the famous cabaret of which he was the manager and where renowned artists such as Alys Robi, Ginette Reno and Claude Blanchard.

When the Rizzuto took power after the end of the Cotroni-Violi reign in the early 1980s, Joe Di Maulo was one of the main tenors of the Calabrian clan who decided to join the new leaders of Sicilian origin - with Moreno Gallo, who already convicted in 1973 for his participation in the murder of a trafficker commanded by the Cotroni clan, and whose name will circulate later among the potential successors of Rizzuto after his extradition in 2006.

Raynald Desjardins does not take long to become one of the men of confidence of Vito Rizzuto. He even becomes one of the neighbors of the new godfather, his father, Nicolo Rizzuto, and the clan consigliere, Paolo Renda, in an upscale neighborhood on the north of the island of Montreal.

Desjardins and Vito Rizzuto are doing in particular the subject of some police investigations into massive imports of hashish and cocaine. Desjardins is the only one to get caught.

“Raynald said he had 'done time', or in jargon he had done jail time for Mr. Rizzuto. That investigation was the RCMP's Jaggy Project, where Mr. Desjardins was sentenced in connection with a conspiracy to import hashish and cocaine from Venezuela.

There are conversations that the RCMP have intercepted where Mr. Rizzuto is talking with Mr. Desjardins, "according to the Charbonneau commission testimony from investigator Nicodemo Milano, also an organized crime specialist with the Montreal police.

As Crown Prosecutor James Brunton explained to the court, Desjardins is "the directing soul of the conspiracy", which initially aims to bring back from the West Indies 5,000 kg of cocaine and more than 9,000 kg of hashish, by making two trips by boat, in 1993.

The mafia joined forces with the Hells Angels for this project and Desjardins appears "clearly in a position of authority" over bikers, according to the lawsuit. The police observed him in particular entering the bunker of the Hells Angels in Saint-Nicolas, on the south shore of Quebec, then coming out in the company of none other than Maurice "Mom" Boucher, with whom he then went to eat in a restaurant.

Desjardins also hired another mafioso, Antonio Pietrantonio - a businessman nicknamed "Tony Suzuki" because he once operated a car dealership of the Japanese brand - to coordinate drug deals in Venezuela.

Their plan falls apart due to RCMP hiring a mole among drug traffickers as well as a rudder failure that forces the Fortune Endeavor crew to drop their 740 kg cargo of cocaine off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Raynald Desjardins receives the heaviest sentence imposed as a result of this investigation, 15 years in prison. "Tony Suzuki" is sentenced to 3 years in prison, while three members of the Quebec Hells are sentenced to between 10 and 13 years in penitentiary. Neither "Mom" Boucher nor Vito Rizzuto have been charged.

In 1993, the year Desjardins was arrested, Giovanni "Johnny" Bertolo was sentenced to 12 years in jail in a completely different case, for having conspired to import 58 kg of cocaine into the port of Montreal. In addition to having been involved in the drug market and loan sharking, Bertolo was also a representative of the local painters union affiliated with the FTQ-Construction. Above all, he is a great friend and a protégé of Desjardins.

The latter has been on parole for a year when Bertolo is strafed by three shooters as he leaves a gymnasium in the Rivière-des-Prairies district. Both in the police community and in the underworld, it is said that this murder is the point of rupture between Desjardins and the Rizzuto clan.

From Scoppa.......

"Desjardins was with the Cotronis at the start,” says Andrew Scoppa. Because of Joe Di Maulo, his brother-in-law. But he met Vito, who was such a lovely guy. Vito always had something smart to say about a lot of things. He had knowledge of just about everything.

And Vito liked Raynald. He spent a lot of time with him. They were friends. “Raynald and Joe Di Maulo are almost similar. They only care about themselves. Both are the type to help someone if and only if that someone can get them something. They love money. Raynald made Vito, who trusted him, make money. But Di Maulo never made Vito any money.

///////Now this statement here, I dont understand.....////

“What people don't know is that even then, Raynald hated Paolo Renda, Compare Frank Arcadi and Rocco Sollecito, because they hated him. They never liked him because Raynald kept Vito away from them.

This is why Raynald held a grudge against those close to Vito and hated them too. His hatred went back several years.

In addition, he wanted to avenge the murder of his friend Bertolo, which Arcadi had authorized in 2005. They got rid of Bertolo because he said to them: “Fuck you! I am not accountable to anyone. " Bertolo was a good guy.

He had also become a mentor to Vic Mirarchi, whom they also wanted to eliminate during this time. But Mirarchi was saved and became Raynald's partner afterwards. “So Raynald had his chance to get revenge after Nicky's murder.

And that was good because he wasn't the only one who sought revenge against the Rizzuto guys. Giuseppe [Ponytail] De Vito too.

He was the one who killed Agostino Cuntrera, "the Lord of St. Leonard". And five or six others, at least.

At that time, De Vito felt his life was ruined because of the Rizzuto clan, he was on the run and the RCMP were running after him to stop him in Operation Colosseum.

“Ponytail” had a grudge against the Rizzutos' entourage, who had put him in trouble by summoning him to meetings secretly recorded by RCMP officers in the Colosseum investigation, which had compromised him by making him talk , stealing his dope… So Raynald joined forces with De Vito.

And this whole period has given rise to a lot of plots and crunches… “Raynald is a very devious guy. He knew he could never get to the top of the hierarchy because he is a French Canadian and only Italians can be made men of honor.

But he loves power and always wanted to pull the strings. Raynald didn't like any of these guys anyway. The only one he had liked was Vito. And there it was no longer the case. He turned on him. He attacked the rest of the family and his followers. If you hit them, it's like you hit Vito.

Yet Vito had saved his life at Desjardins. Several times even. And that's how he thanked her. It's disgusting. I'm not saying Vito was perfect. He wasn't. And I'm not saying he always made good decisions. I disagreed with some of them. But still. And there, Montagna arrived in the portrait .........

• What follows is an excerpt from from an article by André Noël, co-author of the book Mafia Inc. with André Cédilot, entitled" Salvatore Montagna: the ironworker turned mafioso ", published in La Presse the day after the murder of aspiring godfather Salvatore Montagna, November 25, 2011...... it's a good summary, so I'll post it here..

From the La Presse article....Nov 2011..

Salvatore Montagna was one of the major players in the Montreal mafia for two years, alongside his collaborator Domenico Arcuri, of Sicilian origin like him, old Calabrian Joe Di Maulo and caïd Raynald Desjardins. All four were approached to become a chef.

The first having been killed, what will happen to the other three? The answer to this question will continue to be written in the blood. Yesterday's assassination comes two months after the attempted murder against Desjardins.

A strange fate is that of Montagna, who will have spent only 3 of the 39 years of his life in Montreal and its suburbs: the first and the last two.

He was born here, but he grew up in Castellammare del Golfo, a small town in Sicily that was the birthplace of Joseph Bonanno, founder of one of New York's five great mafia families.

Montagna moved from Sicily to New York at the age of 15. At a young age, he founded a small metal company, the Matrix Steel Co., hence his nickname Sal the Ironworker (Sal the Ironworker). He married, had three children, and looked like a dynamic and hardworking immigrant.

In 2002, he was arrested along with members of the team of Patrick DeFilippo, who had murdered Gerlando Sciascia, better known by the nickname George the Canadian. Sciascia was the liaison between the Bonanno family and the clan of Nick Rizzuto and his son Vito in Montreal, to whom he was very close.

The Rizzutos never accepted this murder.

Montagna was charged with illegal betting and usurious loan. He refused to denounce his accomplices. Acting, he said he couldn't remember anything, not even the date of his wedding.

He asked the joke the prosecutor not to inform his wife. The judge didn't find him funny and convicted him of contempt of court.

In 2006, the Bonanno family was going through a difficult period. Its leader, Joseph Massino, had decided to collaborate with the authorities. Sal the Ironworker had performed well in court and was appointed deputy leader. He was young for this position, which earned him another nickname, that of Bambino Boss.

He didn’t have time to hold this post for long. The American authorities decided to extradite him to his country of origin, Canada, on April 6, 2009. He moved into a house of one of his cousins in Saint-Hubert, on the South Shore.

At the end of 2009, Nicolo Rizzuto, son of Vito, was assassinated. Montagna found that this murder did not trigger retaliation. According to him, the field was free to reorganize the Montreal mafia. He made many trips to Ontario and was seen in Mafia restaurants in Montreal. He was bold enough to visit influential businessmen from the Italian community; he let them know that it was up to him, henceforth, that they had to pay their pizzo (or royalty).

The journalist concluded his article by recalling that Montagna, Arcuri, Desjardins and Di Maulo had tried to take over from the Rizzuto clan together, but that conflicts eventually broke out. The very day this article was published, the police recorded a telephone conversation between Raynald Desjardins and one of his friends: -

- How is he, Capuchin? Desjardins asks, using the nickname they give Domenico Arcuri......

- Capuchin, I don't know. It was not going any worse, but there it is in the morning newspaper. He must not be happy, answers his friend, who also knew Arcuri.

- It's in the newspaper why?

- It's in La Presse. Well, because of Montagna there. He said that Dominic was presumed godfather worse than there, he had a competitor who was dead. It doesn't make sense [laughs].

- Ah well, they are made ill them, tabarnac! […] Everything to sell newspapers [sic]

- Noel wrote that. That there were four aspirants. Di Maulo ...

- Yeah

- Yeah. - There was Desjardins. There was Domenic Arcuri, and there was Montagna. So there is one less...

- They don't understand that I am, I am, crisse… French Canadian. Even if you would give me an organized crime membership card, I wouldn't want it, tabarnac. I would return my card like a credit card. Calm! I have peace, holy peace. That's what I want

- laughs] Well at least when they mentioned you in the paper they said, uh, "Raynald Desjardins, the businessman"! I said, "Oh well! This is the first time they have called him the same ".

- Ah well, it's starting… [laughing]

- Usually, they always refer to [Vito Rizzuto's] "ex-right-hand man", you know ... But now Dominic, aspiring chef ... We really need to introduce Dominic to the journalists! It doesn't make sense

- It really doesn't make sense. Well, Dominic is going to go into hiding for two months. We just lost him until after Christmas! Poor Capuchin, cuddle....

• Miriarchi figures quite heavily in all this....

From Chapter 9

......protégé of Calabrian origins Vittorio Mirarchi, who invited him to his wedding in the Bahamas two years earlier.

Mirarchi, in whom law enforcement saw a potential godfather a few years later, was then suspected of being a major importer of cocaine by the RCMP, although he had never been charged with the crime.

Since the fall of 2010, the RCMP's Joint Organized Crime Investigation Unit has been conducting a wiretapping operation in support of the Clemenza drug investigation project.

The investigation, the most ambitious ever against the Montreal mafia since Coliseum, aims first to dismantle a vast drug import network, of which Mirarchi is one of the alleged leaders.

In 2011, this mafia organization would have imported nearly a ton and a half cocaine in Canada, worth $ 70 million. According to the evidence, the organization has contacts to transport drugs between Colombia and Mexico in submarines, much like the late drug lord Pablo Escobar. Quebec truckers were also sent to the Los Angeles area to look for twenty shipments of coke.

No less than 16 BlackBerry devices that the RCMP attributes to Mirarchi are spied on during this investigation. Along the way, the police make an astonishing discovery.

“The Mirarchi and Desjardins clan have access to messages [encrypted texts] exchanged [via BlackBerry devices] between members of the Montagna clan. Mirarchi had a report of the exchanges and sometimes a copy of them delivered to him and then informed Desjardins ", according to a legal document which states that these illegally spied electronic communications were relayed to them by Steven D’Addario and Giuseppe Colapelle.

The latter, a trafficker whom the authorities say involved in the financing of cocaine imports targeted by the RCMP, is also among the 220 guests at the wedding of Raynald Desjardins' daughter at the Le Mirage golf club in Terrebonne on the 1st October 2011.

From Chapter 9

Desjardins, whom Mirarchi and the two men's subordinates nickname "the Old Man", did ally with the former head of the Bonanno family to take control of the Mafia in Montreal following the apparent fall of the Rizzuto clan.

But this marriage of convenience was short-lived.

In the summer of 2011, Mirarchi surprises Montagna in a van with two mobsters he believes associated with the Rizzuto clan, Lorenzo Lopresti and Antonio Pietrantonio (Tony Suzuki).

“When they saw me, they froze. I sent them my hand, they greeted me and left, "Mirarchi wrote to Desjardins on July 20, 2011, and he replied:" It's not normal. "

Lopresti was gunned down the following October 24 while smoking a cigarette on his balcony in Saint-Laurent.

On December 13, it was Pietrantonio's turn to be shot at the entrance to a Portuguese restaurant in the Villeray district, but he survived the attempted murder.

• I have to note, this is a little odd, since supposedly it was Montagna who recruited LoPresti and Pietrantonio into the coalition.... that he would freak out seeing them with his supposed allies shows the level of trust was very thin.....

Chapter cont....

Moreover, Desjardins and Mirarchi do not seem to appreciate that Montagna wants to appropriate all the income from illegal betting and usurious loans - what is commonly called the Book, or the Book in English - from Italian organized crime.

And they find him too aggressive in his collection of pizzo, the rating that the mafia takes in exchange for his protection.

The following August 4, the police intercept an exchange of text messages between Mirarchi and Desjardins:

- He [Montagna] wants the whole Book, writes Mirarchi.

- Not for a long time. Even if I have to leave my skin there, he can't do this. […] I won't let this fucking guy pound us on our feet, Desjardins promises him

- These guys are a real joke. They went to a bakery that had just opened and said they weren't allowed to sell cold cuts, just bread. Why? Because they are the new guys in town and "this is how it's going to work"

- Gang of hostesses of idiots, answers "The Old Man", without suspecting what to expect the next day.....

On the morning of September 16, Desjardins saw the windows of his BMW X-5 SUV shattered when an armed individual who had just crossed the Rivière des Prairies on a personal watercraft fired 17 projectiles from an AK-47 submachine gun in its management, on boulevard Lévesque, in Laval.

The businessman, who wears a bulletproof vest, gets off unscathed. His driver and bodyguard responded by firing six bullets from his Glock pistol at their assailant, who fled. No one was injured in the shooting, which took place in front of a transit bus driver and other road users.

The boss hastens to phone his ex-business partner at Carboneutre, Domenico Arcuri, who is hooking up with Montagna. "I know it's you guys. And I will not miss you! ” he says to the co-owner of Ital Gelati, whom the Desjardins clan nicknames "Capucin" and "Ice Cream".

Six hours later, a “panicked” Montagna informed Desjardins through one of his relatives that he had nothing to do with it: “He says that 'The Old Man' is his only ally here and that he has no reason to do that to him. says it's from [Rizzuto] family, who are back in the picture, ”writes the messenger.

Three days later, Sergeant Benoît Dubé, a seasoned investigator in the fight against organized crime at the Sûreté du Québec, talks with Desjardins's brother-in-law, Joe Di Maulo, so that he uses "his influence with people involved to calm things down ”.

Di Maulo, one of the most influential figures of the Mafia in Montreal for more than 40 years, then served as advisor to Desjardins, who called him "Queen" (The Queen) in coded language with his acolytes. “Mr. Di Maulo replied that the media place him higher than he is, ”notes investigator Dubé in a report, adding that the ex-number 2 of the Montreal mafia downplays the importance of his role and his influence in Italian organized crime.

The policeman then meets Desjardins at his office in Anjou, to inform him that a retaliation on his part may result in "a war". Desjardins replied that he was "a victim of this story" and "a" PEACEFUL person ", writes Sergeant Dubé, putting this last word in capital letters.

Two months later, Montagna was invited to Vaudry Island, in Charlemagne, under the pretext of meeting Desjardins there to settle their differences. It is Jack Simpson, an old friend of Desjardins, who drives him to his home.

Five minutes later, Montagna was still waiting for Desjardins to arrive when he was hit with three .357 Magnum caliber projectiles. With his Rolex on his left wrist and his chic Burberry jacket on his back, but having only his stockings on his feet, he ran out of the house and crossed the and crosses the river before collapsing in the snow and taking his last breath.

Desjardins "the pacific" will only have the "holy peace" he claimed to cherish for four weeks. Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec, with 2,649 incriminating messages intercepted by the RCMP attributed to him - 1,714 before the murder, 150 on the day of the murder and 785 others between November 25 and the day of his arrest -, pass him the handcuffs, to him and his accomplices, December 20, 2011.

The kingpin is the first to plead guilty to a reduced charge of conspiracy to murder and receives a sentence equivalent to 14 years in prison.

- Wow, what a waste! Giuseppe Colapelle reacts on the evening of the arrest of Desjardins, Mirarchi, Steven D’Addario, Jack Simpson and three other defendants. -

Bro, honestly, the French Guy ruined his life, replies a drug importer linked to Mirarchi's organization. I don't know why they went this far. To take control of the city, or to try to rule it, it represents great risks and you make enemies.

Arrested a few years later in the anti-drug operation Clemenza, this trafficker, along with some 50 other accused in this investigation, escaped unscathed thanks to Mirarchi and his lawyers.

Indeed, while accused of murder, Mirarchi wants to force the Crown to disclose to him details of the communications interception technology that the RCMP used to spy on his BlackBerrys.

• The Courts and police , unwilling to disclose how they tapped the phones, grant a stay of proceedings to virtually all 58 defendants in the case.

• Giuseppe Carbone-

In October 2016, before a court in Sicily, the Italian informer Giuseppe Carbone declares under oath that Raynald Desjardins "was waging war on Rizzuto" to take control of the Montreal mafia, during the imprisonment of the godfather in the USA.

Carbone made this declaration in Palermo during the trial of his co-defendants, the brothers Pietro and Salvatore Scaduto, whom he denounced and who were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of two Canadian mafiosi, including that of the former bodyguard of the Laval boss, Juan Ramon Fernandez, as reported by the National Post and Italian media.

Carbone, who once lived in Canada, is the first - and possibly the only - witness to have asserted in court that Desjardins was the leader of the bloody coup attempt against the Rizzuto clan.

Between 2011 and 2017, no less than a dozen people close to Raynald Desjardins or associated with his clan died assassinated. The latest victim is his older brother, Jacques Desjardins, 68, who went missing after notifying his family that he was on a "date" on the morning of October 30, 2017, police said. His white Volkswagen Passat was found two days later in a residential street in the Sainte-Rose district in Laval. The 60-year-old, who had also been involved in importing narcotics, has likely been ambushed....

From Scoppa... Chapter 9

Montagna was a guy with charisma,” according to Andrew Scoppa. When Nick Jr. was killed, Montagna set out to forge strong alliances to take control.

Montagna was with brothers Domenico and Antonino Arcuri, owners of the Ital Gelati ice cream factory, whom he had known for a long time.

Montagna began to demand millions of dollars from a bunch of people, including very rich people. He demanded that money [pizzo] every month or else… They asked one of them for 10 million… Montagna's message was, “Either you pay or there are people going to fall around you.” I'll tell you something: when you're worth a lot of money, you don't run the risk of having someone in your family get shot and you pay.

You don't need that kind of problem. So what if it costs you $ 10 million a year to sleep with peace of mind? Bargain! I give them to you with pleasure. And now leave me alone! They knew these guys were already paying so-and-so, so Montagna was like, "Now it's our turn."

Raynald secretly teamed up with 'Vic' Mirarchi. He was also associated with his brother-in-law, Joe Di Maulo. But Joe choked up when his name started circulating as a potential future godfather in 2010 or 2011. He got the bitch and told Raynald he didn't want to know anymore.

So Raynald extended his hand to Montagna. And they went to get Moreno [Gallo] with them. And Joe [Giuseppe] De Vito. Montagna went to recruit guys like Larry Lopresti, who had always had a grudge against Vito Rizzuto because Vito allowed the murder of his father in 1992. So Lopresti agreed.

Montagna also recruited Tony Suzuki. “Their goal was to go get the Book, recruit everyone on Vito’s side, and force 'the world' to pay 25% of their profits to Montagna.

Some guys from Vito switched sides and went with him. Others told him to go fuck himself.

Raynald said to Montagna: “Do whatever you want, as long as you get your hands on the Book and do what is necessary for us to be paid a 25% tax on the profits that everyone makes in the business. ”

Basically, it was Desjardins who pulled the strings and told everyone what to do, while letting people believe that he knew nothing and that he was not allied with Montagna. Because his alliance with Montagna had to remain secret. No one should know that. He was the one causing the trouble, but he looked like the good guy. It was going well for him.

Until one day a guy with an AK-47 tried to kill him. “In the end, it didn't turn out well for Raynald. He would now be at odds with Mirarchi. Have you ever wondered why Raynald wasn't being held in the same prison as the rest of his gang?

Raynald was in Bordeaux with the bikers while Mirarchi and the others stayed together at Rivière-des-Prairies prison, then at Saint-Jérôme. Raynald was the first to plead guilty, alone, without the consent of the other co-accused.

Supposedly, Mirarchi told all the other co-accused: “You are with me or you are with him.” And they all followed Mirarchi.

It is said that it cost Mirarchi $ 3 million in legal fees, including challenging the RCMP's interception of their texts with Stingray devices in the Clemenza investigation.

And he ended up winning.

Desjardins did not dispute anything. Strange, isn't it? When Mirarchi got out of prison, the first thing he did was go make peace with everyone [in the middle] for himself and his guys.

“The worst part of it all was that it wasn't Montagna who tried to bring Raynald down as he thought. It was Roger Valiquette. Yes, I am telling you. The shooter who had the contract with Valiquette is also an Italian who was a friend with the Hells. Why? It was supposedly because of a quarrel over expensive terrain.

It was also Valiquette who got their hands on the Book the following year, encouraged by "Steve Sauce". I don't know if Raynald knows it now… ”, concludes Scoppa without even trying to hide his amused look.

On December 18, 2013, Roger Valiquette, then considered the most important usurious lender in Quebec and a figure of Italian organized crime, was riddled with bullets near his luxury SUV in the parking lot of a St-Hubert restaurant on the boulevard Dagenais Ouest in Laval.

Already sentenced to 8 years in prison for being involved in a conspiracy to import 60 kg of cocaine between Miami and Montreal in the early 1990s, he operated a small empire valued at several million dollars.

He owned a $ 1.2 million condo on Île Paton, Laval, and a $ 2.4 million yacht in the south. One of his collaborators was Tonino Callocchia, a mobster who also served time for importing cocaine.

The former king of the shylocks had also been in business with Raynald Desjardins, according to several media. Two days after the murder, journalists Vincent Larouche and Daniel Renaud report in La Presse that Valiquette had just taken part in the takeover of the building that housed the head office of Carboneutre, the decontamination firm to which the Charbonneau commission s' is interested in 2013.

Extract from the article "Murder of Roger Valiquette: a key player in the acquisition of the Carboneutre head office" by Vincent Larouche and Daniel Renaud, published in La Presse on December 20, 2013: At the start of the in 2013, he loaned 1 million to investors who bought a large commercial building on boulevard Maurice-Duplessis in Rivière-des-Prairies.

This building was once the headquarters of the Carboneutre decontamination firm, a company infiltrated by the mafia to which the boss Raynald Desjardins and the mafioso Domenico Arcuri were linked, before they distanced themselves.

The Charbonneau commission has long analyzed this fall the unsuccessful attempts of Carboneutre to obtain financing from the Solidarity Fund QFL thanks to the complicity of unionist Jocelyn Dupuis.

In 2012, after the Carboneutre adventure, the building on Boulevard Maurice-Duplessis was the target of Molotov cocktail attacks, like other properties linked to Domenico Arcuri

Following a series of complex financial transactions that followed after Roger Valiquette's loan, this year the building passed into the hands of mafioso wife Tonino Callocchia on October 28.

Roger Valiquette still has interests there. Valiquette and Callocchia have been associated in the past. Callocchia himself was the target of an attempted murder in Laval last February.

From Scoppa....

[…] “Obviously, the outcome of this whole affair between Montagna and Desjardins was a big relief for what was left of the Rizzuto clan, with Stefano Sollecito in the lead, Scoppa does not fail to insist on closing the subject.

After the Montagna affair, it was I who helped bring peace to the community in 2012. Until Vito returned. But Steve Sauce had gotten a little too excited. And I ended up hanging out with him ... ", he concludes, talking about the one he identifies as his worst enemy.

Let's be honest... show of hands..

Who had fuckin Roger Valiquette as Dejardins attempted murderer? Over drug territory at that, lol?

Also, another question....

• Did Montreal cede control over the Platinum sportsbook when Vito went to jail? I thought they started the operation? No?

• I feel I have to point out, after reading this stuff. I dont think there is anyone, any gangster of consequence up there that isnt knee deep in coke. Like, ALL OF EM....

• Who are these Ontario people, if not Ndrangheta? Seriously, like did he really make all those trips to see the Violis? Or was it his fellow Castellemarese Scarcella?

• What exactly is the Toronto structure inreguards to the Rizzutos? The sixth family said it was very loose, more like business interest under the Rizzuto umbrella...

• If any of this originated with NY, it came from Basicano, right? He, Sciascia, and Montagna were like the only guys that knew Canada enough to make a move, and I dont even think Basciano could have done what Montagna did up there because of a lack of familiarity with the surroundings... my opinion...

• I have to say, what Sal demanded sounded a lot more plausible as to what a boss would expect. The WHOLE sportsbook, his OWN cut off the top of construction extortion payments, 25% of everything on top of all that, all the pizzo payments, 10 million from deep pocketed Italians like Borsellino, Not throw me a 100k at christmas or a damn stripclub. That shit sounds utterly retarded yo me, but again, my opinion.....
