Whoever is complaining to Soliai shouldn't be allowed to do so in anonymity. If they want fellow posters censored they should have the balls to say so in public where we can all see who they are and why they want it done. Otherwise they are just contemptible cowards trying to silence people in secret.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

I complained! #WeAreAllGeorgeFloyd #BLM #ICantBreathe
No I didn't. But it would make it easier for me to browse this forum at the coffee houses when they reopen. Anyone sees juggling tit gifs or confederate flags on the screen are going to think I'm looking at porn or am on a white supremacist site. Despite any misconceptions or lack thereof of the actually meanings, these images carry those connotations today.

I think the pc way is the worst way to go, personally.
It's your forum Sol and you can do whatever you want, but the most interesting posters are usually not the snowflakes who complain anonymously because they cant take a fucking picture.

Re: Avatars
I don’t like what I’m seeing here, not in the slightest bit. What one group of people consider offensive, an entirely different group of people don’t.
How do you even enforce something like this, without having to remove anything anyone considers offensive? First it’s Confederate’s Confederate flag, then it’s going to be Pogo’s Chucky avatar because someone out there is triggered by creepy dolls.
This is a slippery slope, because if it exists someone out there is offended by it, and you can’t remove one thing that offends someone without removing everything that offends everyone else. That is how individualism dies, that’ is how free expression dies, and that is how culture dies.
At the end of the day, Freedom of Speech doesn’t protect you on the internet. This is a privately owned community, has zero association with any government institution. What’s considered protected speech is determined entirely by the administrator, the first amendment only protects your right to speak out against the government or government based institutions. As much as we think we are, we aren’t entitled to freedom of speech here, legally we are entitled to nothing. Soliai just so happens to seem to respect that we should be free to voice our selves on his forums.
With that said, as much as Soliai does holds a greater right to curb what’s said or expressed here. I hope he understands the dangers of pandering to people, and the things that offend them. It almost always causes a chain reaction, and that chain reaction almost always renders what it just blew up as a shell of it’s former self. I just hope he remains as neutral and reasonable as he makes himself out to be, and that very well may remain his intention. But it always starts off reasonable until the chain reaction is triggered, and we end up at the point avatars aren’t allowed at all anymore let alone only “certain kinds”.
The ultimate way to take away the power from something that tends to offend, is to embrace it. That’s why I think racist comedy is key to ending racism, it may offend a small group of sensitives but everyone else of all races in the crowd is having a blast laughing their asses off together in unity. The majority prevails, and that’s why Dave Chappelle still has a career.
But we also can’t do nothing about potentially offensive material, because if there aren’t boundaries then toxicity will spread and that too kills communities. There needs to be a line, but a fine line. This is a mafia forum, not 4chan, that kind of toxicity obviously shouldn’t be welcomed, and some of the more racist content should be perhaps toned down. But Pogo’s former avatar, of the cop that slayed Floyd shouldn’t have had to be removed in my opinion, maybe if he wasn’t a mod people maybe wouldn’t have as much of an issue with it. But like Sonny also said, which was great, one man’s terrorist is another man’s hero and there are a lot of people that believe the cop in question didn’t do anything wrong and that Floyd was actually an assailant and not a hero at all. This crosses the fine line, that turns it into pandering and you risk triggering a chain reaction that would almost certainly kill these forums. But not everything is pandering, if let’s say Confederate had an avatar of a black man being hung by a member of the Klan, something that should totally be removed as offensive content. Something like that has no place on forums like these, that is along the lines of the fine line I’m talking about that needs to be established.
What’s next? Is my avatar going to be changed because my great grandfather would call people faggots, and was a womanizer? By me honoring him, that could potentially offend gays and women, how many private messages would it take to force Soliai’s hand with this? Not saying it would, but that’s an example of the danger we face by pandering to a minority of people compared to pandering to the needs of the majority.

Is anybody making threats, legal or otherwise?
There's no good argument for saying a particular avatar is controversial when it wasn't for years.

Going by the "Politically Correct" propaganda that everybody hates, isn't the actual NAME of this Forum considered controversial? Last time I checked, the actual name "BLACK HAND" was controversial & "offensive" to some assholes. So, the person who is "offended" by the Confederate Flag, should also be even more offended coming on to a forum named "The Black Hand". Where does all of this end without it becoming inconsistent & hypocritical?Lupara wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 11:03 amAgreed. I come on here to escape all the bullshit hypocrisy I see in this Country. Please don't turn this Forum into the same thing.

Re: Avatars
If anything real life has become so easy for me, that I need to debate politics, and stand up for freedom of expression on a forum that has nothing to do with politics to even maintain some sort of challenge anymore.
But at least I don’t hide behind anonymity when I have problem with someone or something. I once told one of the more respected members on this forum that I would piss in their face for the entire board to see, be a fucking man not a low life cowardly scoundrel.

You told someone you would piss in their face on a message board? Better be careful around you I guess, didn't realize I was dealing with a real badass.

Re: RE: Re: Avatars
Just change your avatar to the actual Confederate flag instead of the Confederate Battle Flag. No one will know what it is, so there would be no complaints and you would still be able to represent your heritage. Problem solved.Confederate wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:59 pmLupara wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 11:03 amAgreed.
