Thanks Antiliar. Definitely a position with alot of serious issues on his plate. Even though he didn't mention the Outfit, he mentioned the political corruption of Chicago. To me this is where I think the Outfit fits in. With a corrupt government, I believe the Outfit is still making money in that partnership.Antiliar wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 12:17 pm This is Sallet's last interview before he left Chicago:

Sounds like a rat to me. Another example of how the Outfit is running on fumes. Here is the brother of Jimmy Marcello testifying in Court against Matassa giving him sensitive information and what happened to Marcello? Nothing.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 6:22 pmHe also took the witness stand in 2009 in the trial of Deputy U.S. Marshal John Ambrose, who was charged with leaking details about the Family Secrets investigation to the mob.Marcello testified that John “Pudgy” Matassa had funneled sensitive information to him — information he thought Matassa had obtained from a former Chicago cop and family friend of Ambrose.
So is he considered a rat?

Here's how the Loan Sharking racket has been working in Chicago IMO for several years according to the "Cases" where they tried to collect and failed miserably:
1). Borrow money from one of them.
2). When they lean on you, run to the F.B.I. & get wired.
3). When they come back, record all the threats.
4). Keep the money & forget about the Outfit because that is the end of your transaction with them.

Re: Michael Marcello of Chicago Indicted Today
Talerico and Marcello both testified. I wonder if they are still associated with the Outfit. They both are guys that any Outfit guy would not want to be involved with.Confederate wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 4:06 pmSounds like a rat to me. Another example of how the Outfit is running on fumes. Re: Michael Marcello of Chicago Indicted Today
You may be right. However, that even further proves the point that the Outfit is running strictly on fumes. Why would any remaining Outfit guy want to be involved with ANYBODY else in the Outfit? Nobody can be trusted. If a guy gets in trouble and can become an informant & then walk away from the Outfit with no serious repercussions, then that spells the end of it.Frank wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:49 pmTalerico and Marcello both testified. If the only repercussion is that the Informant is now avoided, that's no repercussion. I would think that is exactly why those older guys all backed away. They probably saw the writing on the wall. Only the remaining dumb ones would interact with each other IMO.

You have a great point. I used to laugh at the phrase the Family Secrets Case Broke the Outfits Back. But in a sense different from what I thought it meant, the non retaliation against individuals from the case could have broke their back.Confederate wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 7:41 pmYou may be right. Sometimes the amount of money for which these guys are indicted doesnt mean anything. Back in the old days some powerful capos went down for much smaller amounts...i think Daddono Sr was sentenced to a long term for lousy 15 grand which they stole it from a bank or something like that i dont really remember, while on the other hand he was one of the most powerful crew bosses at the time who probably schemed millions from numerous rackets....they were simply caught for one specific scheme and the government often uses those same situations to give long prison terms...remember Capone?! The guy was "innocent" lol

But your not supposed to testify period. I mean he testified against someone to avoid prison and implicated a made member in a crime in court. That is a rat move. I can't see how any criminal would trust him to deal with him again after something like that.

Yeah but keep in mind that in his day (50s-60s) 15 grand was worth 100 grand. But your point is well taken though.

Re: Michael Marcello of Chicago Indicted Today
These days everyone is afraid of RICO. The way to manage this fear is to avoid the appearance of an organization. Are they doing a good job or just dying out? I know for a fact there are still guys on the street, grey market businesses, Unions and the city council/Illinois Government. The real question, for some, is can you still consider them a cosa nostra organization? Maybe not. I don't care about that, but am more interested in how organized crime (not just mafia) exert influence on government and the history thereof.
Re: Michael Marcello of Chicago Indicted Today
You addressed the very thing that's often confused people regarding the Outfit, i.e. drawing a distinction between the Outfit and the greater culture of corruption in Chicago that it revolves around. In the past, many have assumed them to be the same thing.electricslim wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 10:56 am These days everyone is afraid of RICO. To answer your question, by definition there needs to be a core group of made guys for it to still be considered an LCN family. Once the 20 or so remaining members die off, while there may still be the things you described above, the Outfit will be gone.

Re: Michael Marcello of Chicago Indicted Today
Actually, you don't even need the 20 or so remaining members to all die before there is no Outfit anymore. As you well know, there can be SOME remaining members alive BUT no more Organization. Just a few leftovers doing some things on their own with no Hierarchy.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 12:44 pmYou addressed the very thing that's often confused people regarding the Outfit, i.e. drawing a distinction between the Outfit and the greater culture of corruption in Chicago that it revolves around.
