Its the same in maybe all the latest indictments across all families, you got tons of young italian americans as associates..
just cause you wish that to be doesn't make it true. a lot of these kids in the indictment have family in.
Plus I’m sure a bunch just manage a small gambling package. I get the racketeering, loansharking , extortion charges but why jam a legit 9-5 kid up for illegal gambling ? Total waste of tax payer resources and quite a disturbing trend when NY itself is getting into the sports business.

Also IMO legalized gambling is the most serious long term threat to NY / NJ mafia existence. As long as gambling was illegal the mob would always exist in NY/ NK and have enough recruits but losing this business would likely be a death sentence and will likely push more guys into drug dealing IMO

As I predicted. StandUpGuy, I created a thread over at the Graveyard just for this purpose in relation to disagreements about this bust -- which of course there were sure to be some. And the people who like to pounce have done so.

In general, the depletion of the recruiting pool on a national basis is absolutely true. But the New York metro area has always had the biggest pool to select from and obviously still does today. That doesn't mean it hasn't declined though, in both quantity and quality.
All true.. but the recruitment pool in greater NYC and New Jersey its still quite significant and enough for keeping this ”thing” going for another couple of decades. There are still tons of young italian americans around the families as associates. In the NYC area.
Plenty of Italian Americans grow up with a lack of guidance and are attracted to the fast lifestyle of the mafia. The Amato kid spent his entire adolescence without a father at home and that probably had a lot to do with him going down the wrong path. Plus his dad bein in the mafia didn’t help.
Wise men listen and laugh, while fools talk.

NEW YORK — Authorities bringing a racketeering indictment against purported members of a New York City organized crime family say their tactics are reminiscent of playground bullies.

Federal prosecutors say 11 Colombo members or associates are among 20 people charged Thursday with extortion, loansharking and other offenses, including an unrealized plot to bribe college basketball players to intentionally lose.

In a particularly violent episode, a reputed Colombo captain and other men allegedly “beat the bricks off” a man who confronted his son for insulting a woman in a bar.

In the alleged basketball plot, one defendant was allegedly heard on a wiretap saying he wanted to pay thousands of dollars to players on an unnamed team to let the other team cover the points spread.

The indictment did not mention a team by name, and there’s no evidence the plot was carried out.
