Joe apparently stayed in Florida until his older brother John could get him a pass. I've heard rumors John DiFronzo gave the Outfit to Carlisi at that point to save his brother

That story sounds strange? According to U.S. Attorney John Burley, in 1989 a guy named Coffey owed Joe DiFronzo juice money he couldn't pay. John DiFronzo ten "suggested" that Coffey start the Pot Growing Business. Joe Difronzo would most likely have borrowed money from his brother John DiFronzo who was his Boss and got involved in the situation. John DiFronzo had a lot of money in 1989. The investment was $90,000 plus some payment toward the guys mortgage.
Why would Joe DiFronzo borrow money from Sam Carlisi? Even if Carlisi got involved THROUGH John DiFronzo, John would have paid Carlisi back.
Do you have any documentation stating that Joe DiFronzo "borrowed" this money from Carlisi?

Yeah, but he was still probably able to relay orders behind bars. He was trying to get his conviction overturned on appeal when he died so perhaps he still retained some element of control believing he may be released.

I hate to be a tease but I was told a name in confidence a couple of years ago. I gave the source my word that I would not share it but I will say that (a) he is dead and (b) he is not DiFronzo (at least not the CI he had in mind). I have no way of proving or disproving the source but I haven't heard from him in quite some time. Take it for what it's worth but even if he hadn't asked for my confidence I wouldn't have stated it as fact without further corroborating evidence.

He died in 2004, so it could be him. During his days story goes that he wasn't very likeable person and wasn't very much respected by his peers

You're right, meaning we need evidence regarding Carlisi allegedly financing a dope deal, although when I made some research on Tommy Durso (similar function and status as Richard Cain), his dope deals were financied by both DeStefano and Giancana
