Re: The Irishman is full of shit
Michael Franzese did an interview in the past year where he said he knew what happened to Hoffa and had some tapes that he was holding onto that would prove who the killers were. The person asked him where Hoffa was, and he just said, “all I can say is that he’s very very wet”.

Which one? His actual dad or Sonny?Lupara wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:32 pmEven more full of shit than Sheeran. You can definitely make the argument that Scorsese films post Casino have not been as good as his earlier work e.g Hugo, Aviator, Shark Tale, etc. are all awful.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 3:00 pmWhy don't you like Scorsese?bert wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 8:34 am I don't like Scorsese, which places me in a minority. This movie will probably have a ton is inaccuracies and outright lies in it. Scorsese will say what they always say: " We had expert advisors, and people who were close to him.. " The book it is based on was considered by people who follow OC to be fake on a lot of things.
It's interesting to watch Mean Streets before watching Goodfellas and Casino, all three are very different films but in Mean Streets you can see him start to play with the bleakness/tragedy of mafia life (also toying with a metaphor for Catholic guilt) By making the characters in Mean Streets likable and relatable via good acting and editing, you really get engrossed in the film and you're floored by the end of it. I'd argue Mean Streets is the first film like that of it's kind.
Goodfellas is a timeless and perfect Mafia film. There is a really unique vision in that movie that he executes perfectly. I doubt there will be a mafia film as good as Goodfellas. Casino obviously also incredible. It's true that without Nicholas Pileggi's contributions to Goodfellas and Casino they would not be as good as they are, still have to give credit to Scorsese though.
His non-mafia films are great too. Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, Raging Bull, After Hours, Color of Money, Last Temptation of Christ, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Cape Fear etc.. the list goes on.

He says in this interview that he grew up thinking that he was adopted but at some point his mother told him Sonny was actually his biological father. He says they never did a DNA test or anything because Sonny was the only father he ever knew, and it didn’t matter to him either way.Lupara wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 5:48 pmHaha, good question. There are several pieces on the Franzese’s that refer to Michael as being adopted. Which there is nothing wrong with or anything. I just always thought it was odd that the adopted son was the one who followed Sonny into the life and none of his biological kids really did.

Also the other son, who was apparantly Sonny's favorite which may not be a coincidence, looks a lot more like Sonny than Michael does. Michael doesn't seem to look like his father at all but then again some kids look more like one of their parents than the other.Amershire_Ed wrote:He says in this interview that he grew up thinking that he was adopted but at some point his mother told him Sonny was actually his biological father. Gallo was killed by Sonny Pinto and a few others on the spur of the moment, and they got ratted out by one of the guys with him, who as far as I know never mentioned Sheehan being there.
Re: The Irishman is full of shit
I would agree with the post-Casino downtrend. Scorsese had a run there where he was putting DiCaprio in just about everything. And that's not say DiCaprio isn't a great actor.moneyman wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:57 pm

I’m not saying Frank pulled the trigger...But he was there and to describe the interior of the home perfectly with the blood evidence corroborating it, it proves he was there. And I don’t think many were there. This Was one of the biggest hits this country has ever seen and they were not nearly as many people involved as everybody seems to believe. Many guys may have their theories but very very few were there and involved.

Most articles from before Michael cooperated refer to him as Sonny’s stepson.Lupara wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 5:48 pmHaha, good question. I've seen that brought up before. I don't know why this movie is being held to the standard of a documentary. It's a feature film, "based" on a true story. All feature films deviate from the facts. Just like they use actors that play better to the camera than the people they're based on. For example, Paul Cicero as Paul Vario. This is such a non issue. I can't wait for this movie. I'm watching it the same way I watched Casino and Goodfellas. I'm not going to sit there and fact check all the way through It. I'm just going to enjoy the artistry of Scorsese, DeNiro, Pesci and Pacino.dack2001 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 7:44 am Excellent article on why the Irishman was full of shit. If he was such an effective secret killer why was he using another drunk named Charlie Allen (Palermo) to do hits for Russell Bufalino in the late 70's? From Sheeran's perspective, better to give your daughters something than to die a broke ex-con in a nursing home without a penny to your name. Should be a good movie though.

Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

I don't recall Scorsese ever explaining himself to critics that hold him to historical accuracy. He's always contended his films are just stories based on true people.
