Post-2000 Murder Conspiracies

We have had threads listing the relatively few mafia-linked murders from the 2000s to present, but not sure I've seen us try to list murder conspiracies. With recent info that has come to light about plots within the Lucchese and Colombo family, it seems to be a good time to put this together. I'm terrible at compiling this kind of info, but I wanted to get the thread started. As people list examples I will edit them into master list in this post.

This can and should include examples where the murder contract wasn't fulfilled. I will include any examples where a hit was planned or seriously considered, not only examples where leadership explicitly approved/issued a contract.

Here’s a few i can think of off the top of my head- The Lucchese family considering whacked a bunch of Albanians in 2004. Bonanno boss vinny basciano ordering the murder of Genovese associate Joe Bonelli in 2004. There was a plot by Bonanno members to whack Bonanno boss Mike Mancuso in 2005-2006. Colombo capo teddy persico jr planned to whack soldier Craig Marino around 2005. Lastly Lucchese underboss Steven Crea sr ordered the murder of Bonnano associate Carl Ulzheimer in 2012.

Here's an easy one. Pete Caprio was working with New York and others to get support for taking out Joe Ligambi, George Borgesi, and Steve Mazzone when he got arrested in March of 2000. He plead to murder conspiracy. I think he testified he had the support of Lawrence Ricci with the Genovese and was working to garner further support or had further support with the other families.

Caprio also had the support of Gambino Soldier/Capo Tony Proto.


Another one was that boneheaded Gambino plot to kill Sammy Gravano in the early 2000s.

Off the top of my head..

The Genovese associates that used the Crips to try to hit neighborhood tough guy Joseph Bonelli.

While not necessarily a planned hit, Colombo captain Anthony Russo held a card game in the Bronx after shutting down a competitor nearby and had instructed his guys to be armed and ready to “shoot the shit” out of his competition should they have tried to retaliate during their game

In the Tommy Shots thread Gohn had mentioned that Teddy Jr also had planned to whack out George Fanelli as well. Hoping my man Gohn has any more detail regarding that planned hit?

Another one was DeCavalcante Capo Charles Stango plotting to hire some bikers to kill Soldier Luigi Oliveri a few years back.

in 2012 Matthew Madonna attempted to hire Arnold Lawson to whack Ernest Aiello

Steven Crea sr allegelly wanted to kill Carl Ulzheimer in 2012/2013 over the beef with the bonnano family, althought vincent bruno is now claiming it was over somehthing Carl said to his sister to protect crea.

In or about December 1999, Crea Sr. suggested that Gerry Woods should be killed

Did anything ever come of the Bonanno associate who got killed in the drive-thru? I remember they got a member of the Bloods street gang but don’t remember if it was actually ordered by the Mafia.

A few Blood members were charged but that's about it. Never saw anything else, including the theory about Albanians behind it, confirmed.

That case didn’t seem mob related. The Bonnano associate prob robbed some drug dealer tied to the bloods and that lead to his death. Just me guessing but i doubt the killing was related to the Albanians either.

Joseph (Joe Glasses) Datello tried in 2016 to get whack Sean Richard a former son-in-law of NJ boss John Riggi because in 2000 he flipped on the construction rackets and Riggi, Crea, Truscello and Datello was nailed in the Operation Textbook.
