I believe that was shortly after the war, when the family only had realistically about 20 active members supporting the leadership. Remember, Orena's faction was numbered at 75 men whereas Carmine's supporters were numbered at only 25. After the war, the near entirety of the leadership and capos from both sides were locked up, a huge portion of the family's soldiers, and a number of prominent associates. Informants were lining up from every angle. Orena members often feared repercussions from Persico's side, or they were unwilling to accept defeat, or they were simply unwilling to shake hands with people that were just trying to murder them.

In terms of recovery, the Colombos came back from the brink. There's no doubt about that. They're still the weakest of the five families, but they have 76 members (at my last count, excluding recent deaths) and we know they are actively recruiting new members and conducting new making ceremonies (a confirmed ceremony in 2014, and a reported ceremony last year). Even putting them at a conservative, say, 50 active members, they are still in far better shape - both in terms of numbers and organization - than they were when the discussions about dismantling it were held.

Damn, not even a mention of what state the Colombos are in now. I guess that's a good thing for whoever's in charge.

76 members that we know of and have listed on the forum. Most law enforcement figures have the family at about 100 members.

Who was rumored to have gotten their button at the ceremony last year?

Who from the Colombos has support from the other four families? Or, at least 2 of them?...

I'm not much one for predictions but, if it didn't go to Little Allie Boy, Andy Russo would be an obvious frontrunner. Been around forever, is related to the Persicos, and is already in the family leadership.

Does anyone have more info on Michael Ferrara? He was Ralph Deleo's primary point of contact in New York in 2009. Given that, It wouldn't surprise me if his position in the family is elevated.

I recall an excellent post detailing the Persico family tree, showing who was active on the streets and their respective blood ties to the Persicos, but I can't find anything when I search. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

Persico sure did a lot of time. From january 1972, 47 years ago, when he was finally sentenced for a 1959 truck hijacking he was out only about 2,5 years. He was released late 1979 but surrendered in may of 1981 to serve 4 + 5 years for trying to bribe his way to a early release (in 1978) and parole violation on the hijacking conviction. He was released in march of 1984 and arrested in february of 1985. He was locked up ever since.

On October 4 1961 Profaci soldier Joe Magnasco is shot dead on a Brooklyn street. Magnasco had sided with the Gallo-gang but had previously been close to Persico. Persico was the best man at Magnasco’s 1957 wedding and the Godfather to Magnasco’s oldest child. Magnasco was also part of the 1959 hijacking case. Five days before his murder Magnasco and Persico had an altercation in the courthouse during trial proceedings
in the hijacking case in which Magnasco spat on Persico. Persico was handcuffed at the time.

He was shot in the legs in 1951, survived a car bomb and was shot in the face in 1963 and was the only made guy Valachi testified against.

Salvatore Persico doesn't appear to have been a brother of Carmine. Scarpa mistakenly identified him as a brother. Reports from another informant describe him simply as a relative of Alphonse Persico (Carmine's brother) and census records show no indication that he was a brother. Kenji Gallo also mentioned that Frank Persico (Salvatore's son) was not a nephew of Carmine but related some other way. From what I have found, Salvatore was a cousin of the three Persico brothers. Salvatore was a former cop, likely why he wasn't made, and involved in union activities.

That was one of the reasons it didn't happen. The other was that the other families didn't want to take in guys they didn't know. I suspect that was the main reason it didn't happen and why it likely won't happen now.

It was discussed at the big meeting of the 5 families in 2000.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
