Bonanno trial / Joe C and Porky acquitted

Re: Lovaglio describes Valente ceremony, nicknames, codesigns.
So they used a captain to preside over an NYC induction during this period, so it wasn't too out of place for the Canadian ceremony to be presided over by an acting captain. Would be good to know more details about this Bronx induction, i.e. whether it was verbal-only like Canada (and many earlier Bonanno ceremonies), when it happened, etc.

Re: Trial of accused Bonanno boss and consigliere starts
I underlined the most interesting tidbit at the bottom of the article.
At Bonanno Trial, One Witness Says He Preferred Vinny TV; How Mob Is Replenishing Itself
By Ed Scarpo
Vincent (Vinny TV) Badalamenti, a former acting boss of the Bonanno crime family, was preferable to Joe C and Porky, one government witness said in testimony yesterday at the rackeering trial of Joe Cammarano and John (Porky) Zancocchio in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
The witness recorded audiotape in his pizzeria, which apparently the Joe C regime was jostling to take from him at the time.
Still, the witness said that he tried to get along with them, and had even patronized Porky's restaurant, Bella Donna, where made members of the Bonanno crime family congregated on Fridays.
"Like at happy hour," Judge Alvin Hellerstein interjected, evoking laughter even from members of the jury.
The trial is wrapping up quickly: the government said it might finish presenting its case today, March 6.
On Monday, former associate Stephen Sabella testified that Zancocchio blackened his eye and busted a tooth, and stole about $2 million from him, including his business.
"I can't stand him," Sabella said.
Sabella said he was beat up twice, the second time outside his home, which was when he decided to cooperate with the government.
He testified that, despite flipping, he continued running a gambling book and sold drugs but "just marijuana," he said.
When asked if his father had been arrested in Florida for cocaine, Sabella followed Judge Hellerstein's order sustaining a government's objection and did not answer.
One member of the jury told Judge Hellerstein that Stephen Sabella's name was misspelled in the transcripts that were passed out to the jurors...
Classical music was heard in court while jurors listened to wiretap recordings, prompting Judge Hellerstein to ask if Mozart was part of this case?
Earlier on Monday, a Cosa Nostra expert testifying for the government said that the mob had waived one of its rules: Because of the high levels of incarceration, each family can now make two men for every member who dies; previously, they could only make one man per deceased member.
Similarly, the requirement that made men be 100% Italian has been changed such that only the father must be Italian.
He said surveillance of wakes is "of incredible value to law enforcement.. The understanding is visual, a hierarchy, you put the dots together."

interesting stuff. they've gone back and forth on that 100% italian thing, leads me to believe it was never followed at all.

If you're referring to the requirement that a made member has to be 100% Italian, I found out recently that that requirement was removed way back in the 1950s. Scarpa explains it in one of his debriefings from the early 60s.newera_212 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2019 7:30 pm interesting stuff. they've gone back and forth on that 100% italian thing, leads me to believe it was never followed at all.

JD's latest blog post has Frank Coppa and Anthony Graziano both captains conducting a making ceremony in 2002. Looks like it was quite common for captains to do this sort of thing.

Without giving anyone up, or implicating anyone, dont mention any names....
But can you elaborate a little on just HOW into coke dealing they were? Ongoing debate/question is why I'm asking here....
If you cant, no need to apologize....
So......What do you guys think the landscape of the Bonnanos is now?
Cammarano holds onto underboss?
In the Persico thread, I asked about the wake/ funneral.... I know he probably cant go..... What are the chances a really heavy guy shows up? Who represents Mancuso on the streets right now?
Would it be smart for any top Bonnanos to show up? After that Xmas party thing, they should have learned I think, but this might be too big to not attend.
Do you think it could be like Dellacroces wake, where NOT showing up could lose you respect? I'm just thinking aloud here....
Keeping track... there's Mancuso.... the Grimaldis..... Badalamenti..... who are the other major powers in the Bonnanos?
Re: Trial of accused Bonanno boss and consigliere starts
They were very heavy into cold dealing basically controlling the whole South Shore Staten Island... very iffy a lot of things are up in the air and guys on the down-low.. don't speak very much... things are very tight lipped amongst everybody... I think Cammarano will but I can't really answer that... I think some family members will show up to the wake ..not many.. my uncle just passed away recently he was made and only so many people showed up because they're watching wakes diligently...
As far as powerhouses you basically named most the top guys... couple more I can think of but I won't mention... by the way I'm in my forties grew up in Staten Island I also had a cousin who flipped in 2003 no need for me to go on this site and talk nonsense... just recently found this site because of the recent indictments and I couldn't believe all the information on here...impressive and shocking

So a dumbass jury. Shocker. I'm sure most of them were lost once the word racketeering was used.
