WHG Simms

Post by JakeTheSnake630 »

All my Boston/Somerville posters, what do you think happened to Jimmy Simms? Successfully disappeared? Or was he killed? If he was im surprised it never came out with all the govt docs, debriefings, 302s, etc that we have on a lot of these cases. Has anyone ever even heard rumors of where he wound up? Would have loved to hear Howie’s thoughts when he did some of his interviews.

Well according to the book Rifleman which is a collection of Flemmi's debriefings from his time as a gangster. He thought that Joe Mcdonald may have fallen out with Sims. Page 224 of Rifleman says that 'Flemmi recalled that MCDON¬ ALD and his brother Leo tried to kill SIMS at SIMS’ apartment during this time frame. Flemmi said that SIMS had told him about the attempt on his life by the MCDONALD brothers.'
I realize however Flemmi has his own issues with credibility.

Yes, I remember that part of Rifleman. Its definitely possible Joe Mac killed Sims, just surprised it never came out what happened. I think Mac and Sims spent some time on the lam together. Sims like Mac was a founding member of WHG.

Thanks for your message and was Sims much closer to Howie Winter rather than Bulger or Flemmi?

Yes much closer to the Somerville guys. Guys like Howie, Buddy, Sal Sperlinga, Joe and Leo Mac, and the Martoranos. Im sure he was around Bulger and Flemmi at times, but they came into the picture later in the existence of WHG.

Thanks for your recent message and I wonder how many murders Sims was responsible for? I think that the Hitman described him as the driver during the time that Winter Hill Gang were going after Indian Al and his gang at Angiulo's request.

I found this interesting article about Howie Winter who was the partner of Jimmy Sims in the archives of the Boston Globe which I put the links below.

On a side note could Buddy Mclean have been an informant?
