He would have made a good UnderBoss.

That is a strange scenario to think about. Caprio as boss, D'Ambrosia as underboss and Angelina as consigliere

My post above was meant in jest but it would have been interesting how things would have played out if they had whacked Ligambi, Mazzone and Borgesi. The new administration wouldn't lasted as they would have quickly been indicted as they ended up later in the year. Caprio would have flipped as he ended up doing (making him the second successive Boss to flip in Philly). What happens to Philly after that? Who takes over as Boss? Massimino? Lancelotti? Do NY just disband and absorb what is left?

Well...I don't think it's too much of an exaggeration to say Gotti wasn't really wealthy when he became boss. Was Gotti ever seen as an earner really? Gravano talks about him as boss pestering him for money he was owed to pay his gambling debts. Fratianno in LA had almost no money at the end when he flipped. Which was pretty pathetic. And he thought he could become boss of LA and everyone else was a loser who couldn't make money yet he failed in that respect at the end. I don't know that they do credit checks when dealing with people. Freselone writes that Patty Specs was making almost no money in the late 80's into 19909 and was just getting support from Freselone. And he was going to be underboss of Philly. Merlino is often described as a guy who didn't have money and just screwed over bookies by not paying them. Natale didn't have much either. I don't think it's that odd.

Al D'Arco was a brokester until he became a captain and started getting tribute payments from his crew. Joe Valachi said that Tony Bender was a degenerate gambler and was often in need of money to cover his losses. I was actually surprised to read that Valachi was somewhat of an earner—not a multi-millionaire—but he definitely lived an upper middle class lifestyle. The house that he bought in 1940 cost $40,000 which would be equivalent to $734,000 in today's money. Valachi is always talked about as a low-level nobody, but he seemed to have a decent business sense.

Re: Danny D’Ambrosia Indicted
Never realized it was him Ligambi was talking about on the wiretap at that dinner...
Sources and at least one federal wiretapped conversation recorded at a mob meeting in North Jersey indicates that at one point, D’Ambrosia’s father allegedly approached Ligambi at his South Philly Home worried about his son’s safety when he was released from prison.
On the tape Ligambi says D’Ambrosia father “comes over my house about three or four years ago. Said the FBI said you was gonna kill my son. He was telling me this on the steps. I said “what the f… you talkin about? Don’t ever come around this house again.” I mean that’s the kind of nuts you dealing with. Know what I mean.”

Re: Danny D’Ambrosia Indicted
He must be laundering dirty money through those two companies. He's still got the steak shop and auto shop on Broad St in Packer Park but they renamed it it used to be called Talk of Town. Interesting because I remember they were talking about Danny on the Stefenelli tapes a lot and how he's got a guy in Connecticut he's close with some builder and he moves around up in NYC as well. Ligambi was saying something like "he's got an idea every week but nothing every comes to fruition". Apparently he made alot of money and was very wealthy. Natale took a lot of it off him apparently and then he got mixed up with the North Jersey guys. Apparently he's a stand up guy though so probably just another blip on the radar case... Goes to show the Feds are looking at all these guys though.. their financials..any shell companies... everything!
Re: Danny D’Ambrosia Indicted
Based on the Stefanelli tape, D'Ambrosio seemed to be very active with the Gambino family and was meeting directly with John Gambino. Will be curious if any info on his connections with the Gambino family will come out of this.

Re: Danny D’Ambrosia Indicted
D’Ambrosia was a bookie sent up by Natale to the North Jersey crew in the 90s to help them make money. His cheesesteak stand sucks and I don’t think he was allowed back into the fold by Ligambi. The FBI actually warned him/his parents that Ligambi supposedly wanted him gone. He hasn’t been involved in probably 18 -19 years.
