I always thought it was pretty obvious Tony was killed. The camera cutting to black was Tony’s point of view. I remember this was foreshadowed in an earlier episode when Bobby Baccala says “You probably dont even hear it when it happens” when referring to getting whacked.

Glad that was finally said.

So who took over or was Phil's statement of cut off the heads and do business with whoever was left implied they might get absorbed like what is possibly rumored to have happened today with Gambinos n DeCavs.

Also why do u guys think Tony was actually killed?

Is this a serious discussion? I thought the Soprano’s were fictional characters.

But this isn’t the first time I seen you guys talk about them like they actually exist, same with the Corleone's from The Godfather lol so now I’m just confused.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that since we are a mafia forum and we study minute details like when Joe schmo was made in 1935 or 1936... And we will discuss it at length....

And also the sopranos is probably one of the best shows in tv history...

So all that being said.... It doesn't take a genius to realize that it was rhetorical question.

Do I have to explain the reason why one like myself would ask a rhetorical question in a thread about this ficitonal TV show? (That has also been studied and written about 4 books on as well...)

Probably a power play by someone in his former crew that was, maybe Parisi?

I always seen it as a way to reward everyone: if you wanted Tony to live he technically never died in the series, if you wanted him to go to prison that would have been inevitable with Carlo's flipping and if you wanted him to die the evidence is there suggesting he's about to.

But, as was posted, Chase called it a "death scene" so that settles it.

Not only that... But when it was pointed out he got mad. Effectively meaning it was deff Tony's killing.

So... I'll take a crack at this again...

Who took over after??

For the record, that conversation where Chase apparently let that slip occurred (and was reported on) a year and a half ago. Not sure why media outlets are just picking up on it now.

Paulie took over, I would guess. Who else was left?

I’m in two minds , chase slipping up saying it was a death scene seems pretty conclusive, I’ve always thought either Tony was killed or maybe us the viewer was killed from the show so to speak 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

It wasn't about me, I never speculated or wondered who took over for Tony or Phil. I did break down the hierarchy changes over the course of the seasons and explained my reasoning but I did this while the show was still on. If I was bored I could do a photo chart capturing everybody up to the guys escorting Jackie Sr to his car during the commerical or Gaetano Giarizzo (showed up w Furio to collect Filone and Bevalacqua's money or the guy who's at Richie's party who hands him an envelope and Sirico responds- "It'll all be ones." I'm not that bored yet.

Actually just finished the entire series and the last episode of season six was really about decline and consolidation in terms of the mafia, at least that was my interpretation. What started out as 5 crews in S1 are essentially merged into 1-2 crews by S6's conclusions. Maybe that was intentional or maybe Chase didn't feel it was important to cover every change. Startings in S5 is when HBO took down the Sopranos chart off of their website indicating that they weren't going to focus on the hierarchy as much.

I always thought the Barese crew was the muscle in the family 😁
