Other Ethnic Organizations
What led to the collapse of other ethnic groups, Irish Mob, the Jewish mobsters, etc, during the 1900s to 1970s?
Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
Not having the criminal tradition and hierarchical structure that ensures longevity of the organization. The Irish and Jewish groups were generally based around a main leader or small group of leaders. And once they were imprisoned or killed, the organization fell apart. Also, at least for the Jewish groups, many had no intention of continuing on anyway. Crime was a means to earn enough money to build a foundation to move into legitimate mainstream society. Both the Irish and Jewish groups, as a whole, were largely gone by the 1950s. There were some Jewish guys here and there, like Lansky, Dalitz, etc. that were affiliated with LCN families. And you had relatively small Irish groups like the Westies in New York, Winter Hill in Boston, and Danny Green in Cleveland.TommyShots wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 8:51 pm What led to the collapse of other ethnic groups, Irish Mob, the Jewish mobsters, etc, during the 1900s to 1970s?

Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
Good post Wiseguy! To add on, I think the Jewish gangsters were known for getting their money and going legit within a generation, as opposed to the Italians were much more likely to bring their sons and nephews into the life.
I’m not sure why that is, but it must be something that goes back to Sicily where blood ties were the only thing anyone believed in and there was little trust of anyone who wasn’t immediate blood family. Real old world shit.
I remember someone telling me people within one little town in Sicily wouldn’t get along with people from another town. Which is nuts to me because they’re like your neighbors and paesani, but that’s how insular that little island has always been. But that’s obviously a small sample size, so someone may know more about it than me.

criminal gangs as bloods, crips, latin kings, ms-13 usually don't seem to bring sons into their organizations and they appears loosely organized but they are still alive and they started a long time ago, the latin kings in 1948 if i remember rightWiseguy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 9:52 pmNot having the criminal tradition and hierarchical structure that ensures longevity of the organization. Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
Apples and oranges. With LCN families, there is typically a clear line of succession that shows it's the same organization that started X number of years ago. Many of these gangs are essentially a brand where one can start in some area, at any given time, and call itself by that name. For example, Blood and Crip sets started popping up in New York/New Jersey in the 1990s but had little or no connection to the original gangs that started in Los Angeles in the 1970s. Because of this, the brand will last, even though sets may come and go. Also, most gang members only age on range from 13-25. Some go into their 30s, or even 40s, but they are the exception.scagghiuni wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:32 amcriminal gangs as bloods, crips, latin kings, ms-13 usually don't seem to bring sons into their organizations and they appears loosely organized but they are still alive and they started a long time ago, the latin kings in 1948 if i remember right

they just start a set without any ok? they know some member in prison and they claim they are bloods/ms-13/latin kings etc. when they are released? disconnected gangs with a label... in europe there are some gangs who says they belongs to ms-13 and latin kings, but i bet they started it on their own, maybe in salvador ms-13 is a bit more organizedWiseguy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:46 amApples and oranges. Yes. After the LA Crips and Bloods got national media attention a lot of the black gangs in other parts of the country started adopting the names. Most of these gangs have no connection to each other.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
I grew up in a very small, very white town in Kansas and there were people here who actually tried to claim that they were crips. It was hilarious to watch the whitest white people I've ever seen try to act gangster and even "set trip" when someone else claimed a different gang. There was never any violence, they mostly just provided entertainment for those of us who weren't delusional.scagghiuni wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:22 amthey just start a set without any ok? they know some member in prison and they claim they are bloods/ms-13/latin kings etc. when they are released? disconnected gangs with a label... in europe there are some gangs who says they belongs to ms-13 and latin kings, but i bet they started it on their own, maybe in salvador ms-13 is a bit more organizedWiseguy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:46 amApples and oranges. There was a wannabe gangster called "Candyman" who started a homegrown gang in my town. I can't remember the name of it, but they were actually fairly organized, with Candyman as boss and a sherm head named Dustin—who everyone referred to as "sticks" because of his addiction to PCP—as his underboss.
They managed to recruit about twenty members before the local police arrested Candyman and disbanded the gang.

Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
Ms-13 tends to be sort of organized. Every clique has a “first word”( the boss) and a “second word” (like an underboss). Most cliques answer to gang members in El Salvador and some cliques answer to gang members in Los Angeles. However some cliques are independent but those that are get a green light.scagghiuni wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:22 amthey just start a set without any ok? they know some member in prison and they claim they are bloods/ms-13/latin kings etc. when they are released? disconnected gangs with a label... in europe there are some gangs who says they belongs to ms-13 and latin kings, but i bet they started it on their own, maybe in salvador ms-13 is a bit more organizedWiseguy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:46 amApples and oranges. Wise men listen and laugh, while fools talk.
Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
Not only would they probably not know who to ask most of the time, many of these sets under the same name end up as rivals battling over turf, petty beefs, etc.scagghiuni wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:22 amthey just start a set without any ok? they know some member in prison and they claim they are bloods/ms-13/latin kings etc. when they are released? disconnected gangs with a label... in europe there are some gangs who says they belongs to ms-13 and latin kings, but i bet they started it on their own, maybe in salvador ms-13 is a bit more organizedWiseguy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:46 amApples and oranges. The NY Daily News put out a good interactive map that shows most of the gangs and where they're based in NYC. Often the set name is listed but not the brand. For example, the Mac Baller Brims are a Blood set.

All roads lead to New York.

Re: Other Ethnic Organizations
According to Crime Statistics, members of Crip sets are killed by other Crips more than anyone else. The Names "Crips" or "Bloods" mean nothing. It's one little neighborhood gang against another. Always has been. That's why the shootings & murders rates are astronomical.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:25 am

They do mean something, they’re acronyms. And now they act that way but in the early 1970s they had fist fights, and neighborhood rumbles and against the racists in the 60s. They were made to protect neighborhoods in LA before their own gang culture got lost & the founders were murdered/Incarcerated.Confederate wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 4:31 pmAccording to Crime Statistics, members of Crip sets are killed by other Crips more than anyone else. They mean nothing. They destroy their own neighborhoods. The innocent people who live there are "trapped" & are "victims" of these criminals.TommyShots wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 4:58 pmThey do mean something, they’re acronyms. They never had a "culture".
