Not your usual topic of discussion. But I’m wondering if you folks are hip with the gab these wise guys once/still do sometimes speak, with explanation.

"Put on the spot."
Popular term for someone marked for death or who was killed. I've heard the term from the 30s up through the 40s.

Good one. I have seen that one in many old newspapers, I don't know if it was a street term too, but it was very common back then. I have an old story saved where they use it to mention a shooting-killing from 1931.
