How’s everyone doing? Forgive me if this is not the appropriate forum to be posting this, or if there is a thread better suited for what I am asking...
As some of you may know, I been trying to research my great grandfather, on my father’s side of the family. A bunch of people here have provided me with some great resources. However, that research has come to a temporary halt since due to the Coronavirus, I’m unable to goto California in the foreseeable future so I won’t have access to anymore material until I am able to travel there again.
So in the meantime, I started a new quest for research, and was hoping maybe I could make use of you guy’s resourcefulness since I to no avail can’t seem to find anything, and I don’t even know where to begin with this one. When both my grandparents passed away over the last few years, it’s come to my knowledge that my Grandmother had a brother, named Gino, known as Uncle Gino to my mother, and her siblings. I only ever heard of him once, and my mother’s brother only ever told me the story about him once.
Beyond that, unlike my great grandfather on my father’s side of the family, there is no proof of “Uncle Gino’s” existence, beyond the story I heard once from my family only after my grandparents passed away, this is that story: My Grandfather, John Fiorello, after some kind of dispute in a stairwell between him and a made man. My grandfather, proceeded to beating the shit out of the guy and throwing him down the stairs. A short time later, he put a hit out on my Grandfather, and my Grandmother Mary DiPalmero had her brother “Uncle Gino” cancel the hit because he was allegedly a “Captain” in the mob for which ever family, I don’t know. That’s the whole story, and my mother’s brother only ever told this story once, and never again since.
I texted my mother, got my grandmother’s maiden name, which was DiPalmero, and her mother’s (my great grandmother) maiden name was Soldano. This means Gino’s last name was either DiPalmero or Soldano. So I was wondering if anyone happens to know of a Gino with either of those last names, and if there is any truth to his existence. I don’t know how true the story itself is, but apparently that happened and “Uncle Gino” had enough sway to make it go away. From what limited things I could find from keywording things like the last names, and mafia, and Gino in google search, I found there were mafia figures with those last names but nothing that rang any bells or any indication what families such last names would be affiliated with, I am not even sure if it works that way either. Unlike the rest of you, I’ve only became interested in such things upon learning about my great grandfather’s involvement, now I just want to see if there is any truth to this.
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated, just trying to do some research on my family to help take my mind off things.
