So how depressed are the bookies?

With this coronavirus putting all sports on the shelf, indefinitely, what will be the response from the gambling industry?

Will the bookies push traditional games like, I dunno, poker or numbers?
I mean, no March Madness? Shit seems inconceivable..

Guys are pulling their hair out for sure, if this was around football season and the NFL cancelled guys would be suicidal.

Add this to the crisis. Street level bookies and racketeers need a new way to make money until this blows over. Loan sharks will be extra aggressive in collecting their debts, from customers who themselves are under strain and desperate. They themselves will resort to petty crime to save their skin. The effect this crisis will have on organized crime just adds to the ripple effect.
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

Yes that's what I'm thinking. That and more aggressive extortion. Sports betting is the main source of income for LCN as a whole and without it they are pretty much done earning wise. this will no doubt hurt the smaller groups like Chicago, Philly, etc where bookmaking is pretty much all they have and is what keeps them going.

Gamblers always find something to gamble on. Horse racing is big, and by April baseball will start, although it's suspended for now. Most bookies make enough to get through a few weeks like this. Plus many have legit businesses or jogs they work, usually runners.

The flip side: Many gamble and lose themselves, big time. If they don't go out of their way to find things to bet on, they'll save money. If there are any numbers runners left they'll be fine. Guys who depend on basketball are screwed for now.

Good story on sports gambling, and how sports are pushing to get in on it.

Welcome to the Age of Aquarius boiz

I invested in a bunch of CVS stock, as well other healthcare and hygienic brands. Such as Cuard, and Lysol. Since these seem like the only stocks that are going to be remaining strong anytime soon because of all the crazy demand. At the end of the month, since markets are expected to stabilize in April (assuming theory is correct about the virus and it significantly reduces contagiously in the warmer weather) I’m going to sell sell sell and make so much motherfucking money.

I also started scabbing, my wife is a third shift store manager at our local CVS, so needless to say we got EVERYTHING, and I’m going to sell off the excess outside all the local stores from the back of my truck.

I imagine this is exactly what everyone is going to start doing one way or another. The good old days are back!
