Mafia presence in Los Angeles
Hi all
I was wondering if anyone is aware of any LCN activity in the Los Angeles area. I know that the Colombos have a presence with Donnie Montemarano, and that the son of enforcer Luca Brasi himself, Lenny Montana Jr. is still around, but do any of the other families maintain a presence? Is there anyone from the LA Family still left/active?
Thanks.

Are those the Sicilian Gambinos?
Re: Mafia presence in Los Angeles
Ronald Lorenzo was a prominent Bonanno soldier active in Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s in organized crime, although had broken off from the family and was not kicking up to anybody by the late '90s.
DeCavalcante family capo Charles Stango claimed in 2015 that he had planted the crime family "flag" in L.A., as well as Las Vegas and New Orleans.

prob not much. the mexican mafia controls a lot of crime in california.

Outside of sports betting networks that still extend to a few western states, there's little to no LCN presence or activity there. You can see a guy here or there from one East Coast family or another living in the West but it's a stretch to say that represents the family having a presence there. Most of these guys are at least semi-retired.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:43 pm Hi all

That would be Thomaso "Tommy" Gambino, who is a member of the LA family. But that family is defunct. There are only around a half-dozen members still alive and half of those don't even live in California anymore.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 11:20 pm There is one of the Cherry Hill Gambinos sons I think it Rosarios son

Re: Mafia presence in Los Angeles
I’m not exactly sure about LA proper, but the Philadelphia Family has a guy in San Diego (~2 hours south of LA) names David “Fat Dave” Stroj who was relocated to California after getting caught up in the Delco Nostra case around ~2010. He was recently caught another case subsequently out in San Diego where he was caught running illegal card rooms in addition to running high end poker games out of mansions in the San Diego area for high rollers, which also ended up being a springboard for Prostitution and Loansharking rings that he controlled and ran. He kicks up to the Philly guys and was a known associate in the 90s of Borgesi and Merlino and was found to have kept correspondence with Merlino while in prison. Merlino appears to make semi-regular trips out to LA/CA, which could be for business purposes, but his sister also recently moved out to CA and lives out in Malibu, CA so it could be a little of both or simply visiting with family. Here’s one article from Fat Dave’s recent bust where he took a pinch in 2016:

Actually the article states that Fat Dave was based in San Diego, but he had 15 “sub-bookies” handling the bets of more than 360 clients in San Diego, Los Angeles, New Mexico, Nevada, Illinois, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, Canada and Mexico. So safe to say he’s the Philly Family’s “Guy” in Southern California including LA in addition to the South West region of the U.S. and Mexico.

Good stuff, PHL, forgot about Stroj. Seems like he was doing well out there.

Re: Mafia presence in Los Angeles
Besides Stroj, there was another guy with ties to Philly (as well as a couple NY families) named Ralph DiPiero. Back in 2000 he was involved in a case where two managers and several dealers at the tribal Casino Arizona in Mesa, AZ lost their licenses after it was reported they had borrowed money from loansharks, including DiPiero. He was later involved in another bust in 2008 where 36 people, including Pinnacle Sports owner Brandt England, were charged in Arizona with running a multi-million dollar sports bookmaking operation that stretched from Phoenix to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
