I think it was US author Claire Sterling who originally claimed that meetings had taken place between representatives of the biggest organized crime syndicates in the early 1990s. She claimed that Russian, Yakuzza, Sicilian Mafia, American LCN Familes and other groups had met and had carved up the territory of Europe between them. It sounds silly and I doubt the authenticity in her claim. American Cosa Nostra would not have been interested in gaining territory in Europe. To my knowledge, they never operated in Europe and never had any business interests here.

Sterling´s material is often very controversial and in my opinion, she had a tendecy of overstating and sometimes exaggerating findings without presenting any evidence. I´m no expert on organized crime groups operating in Europe. There could have been meetings between Russian and other Eastern European groups conducted in the early 1990s. But claiming that Yakuzza and American LCN were included in these meetings, is silly in my opinion.

I've heard that the outfit had some interest in Casinos in London, one of them being the Victoria Sporting Club. The owner on paper, was a guy named Judah Binstock, who was a British millionaire. He also may have had something to do with the Spanish coin-op factory, as he owned lots of commercial properties in the west of Spain.

However, no European operations that would require a meeting on that level.

I´ve read Lansky and Cellini (not members of American Cosa Nostra) had casino interests in London but didn´t know the outfit (if true) had too.

Apparently Angelo Bruno was thought to have an interest as well:

I'm trying to find the source that claimed that Dr. Bill Nestos (an outfit associate, particularly of Gus Alex), was seen traveling to and from a London Casino, and that Alex might have an interest in said Casino. I'm not sure it mentions the Victoria Sporting Club, specifically.

If you believe the Hy Larner stories the outfit had gambling and coin operated machine interests in Spain and all over the world. I've never heard anyone dispute that Sam Gianacana owned a casino in Iran. I found Sterlings book Octopus pretty awesome but thieves world wasn't the same caliber. She seemed to be a firm believer that the Sicilian mafia was taking over the whole world.

The Outfit definitely had interests in international casinos, especially in Panama. They even had a piece of a casino in Aruba as late as the 2000's, although I'm not sure what the status on that is now.

By the way, Marco, your posts about the Gambinos vs the Genovese on the other forum were way off.
