The first heroin Nicky Barnes ever sold was that of his father. His father was holding it for a streetcorner dealer. Barnes sold some of it to older neighborhood guys. It was easy money and in his book Barnes writes that was when he learned the value of heroin. He started dealing for a bigger dealer named Fat Herbie. Herbie brought him into contact with the Italians. The Italians were the ones importing all the heroin. Their stuff was top notch, just like their reputation. Fat Herbie's connection was Frank Madonna. Frank had a smaller brother named Matthew. Matthew, nicknamed Matty, combined streetsmarts with a hot temper. A few weeks after meeting Barnes, Matty shot dead one of Fat Herbie's dealers for trying to make fun of him. But Barnes and Matty Madonna would meet again.
I can't find info on him, maybe he is dead or he was made ecc
Frank Madonna..... Marty’s brother. Also a narcotics guy. Served several jail terms for drugs through the seventies and eighties. Believed dead today. Think he was in Danbury, Lewisburg for sure
I think the Lucchese guys were not far behind the Bonnanos - most of the mob was selling 'bambina' during Madonna's heyday - look at the Genovese guys in harlem who had lengthy convictions. I think the key difference with the Bonnanos was Galante (the boss) moving heroin himself.

Marty Madonna is a super interesting character wish there was more available info about him.
Same here. Im guessing his family was from East Harlem. But i remember reading somewhere (probably wrong info) he was born in Selden, Long Island...which is where his address was at the time of the big gambling indictment 11'ish years ago
its amazing that the guy spent a huge chunk of his adult life in prison, through a ton of changes in the Luccheses and LCN in general, and managed to stay in the loop the whole time, come home and get made and immediately hold influence. either their bench was super light, or he had some major juice.
I wonder who in the Luccheses were his main allies, to keep him plugged in for like 20 years while he was locked up?
