Re: Cerone/Giancana Rivalry
It sounds right. Most Outfit guys got along with other Outfit guys. Fosco even said that Aiuppa was considering taking out Cerone at one point, so Cerone was just one of those guys who weren't too well-liked. The claim that there was rivalry between Giancana and Accardo, on the other hand, I believe was bogus. I believe they got along well. When Giancana was killed it was more for business reasons than personal ones. He didn't respect Cerone as the underboss, but the bigger issue was that he wasn't kicking up his profits as the bosses thought he should.

I don't know, I've read several transcripts where Giancana and Cerone spoke quite amicably. They certainly may have disliked each other but I don't believe they ever let it seriously affect Outfit business - at least while Ricca was around.

Re: Cerone/Giancana Rivalry
Chicago, I wasn't talking about you saying that Giancana and Accardo warring with each other. I agreed with your comment. The second half of my comment was about other posters (who are pretty much on the other board), not you.Chicago wrote:I said Giancana & Accardo had a FRIENDLY Rivalry like two men who respected each other and pushed each other to greater things.
They both always wanted to win favor with Ricca.
There is a big difference between a bitter Rivalry versus a friendly Rivalry.
The Rivalry between Accardo/Giancana was FRIENDLY rooted in mutual respect.
The Rivalry bewtween Cerone/Giancana was BITTER rooted in contempt.
See the big difference?
First DeStefano was killed.
Giancana was killed next for more than one reason.
However, the biggest reason was because Auippa/Cerone feared him and Giancana had no respect for them.

Re: Cerone/Giancana Rivalry
Chicago, what do you think about Fosco claiming Aiuppa wanted Cerone hit even after they had gotten out of prison? I always thought that was kind of a stretch. Aiuppa could barely walk by the time he got out; not that it would have stopped him but I figured he was pretty much done by that point.
