1993 South Beloit/Roscoe, Illinois LCN

Post by cavita »

I was looking at this FBI Organized Crime report from 1993 and it noted an LCN group connected somehow to the Rockford LCN faction- this report
erred in that it should be South Beloit and not "Benoit." It made me look a little into some connected people that lived in the Beloit, Wisconsin and South Beloit/Roscoe/Rockton, Illinois areas and these are a few I could think of:

James Abate (1912-1974) Beloit 1940s involved in counterfeiting with Frank Cordona of Chicago
Barney and Frank Alfano owned a tavern in South Beloit many years 1950s/1960s and were from Sambuca
John Anastasi (1918-2000) LCN associate, family from Marsala
Giovanni Baderi (1916-1994) South Beloit tavern owner and gambler
Calogero Boscio born 1882 Campobello di Mazzara- killed Frank Farace in Beloit 1920
Gaspare Buffa (1890-1969) born Marsala, bootlegger in 1920s South Beloit
Vito Buffa (1895-1972) born Marsala bootlegger in 1920s South Beloit
Joseph Cammarata (1890-1975) born Marsala bootlegger and front for Rockford LCN
Vincenzo Cimino born Ribera. Possible 1980s LCN front in Roscoe, Illinois
Antonio Ciulla (1939-1992) born Montelepre. 1970s/1990s owned pizzerias in Beloit and South Beloit
Phil Damiano (1902-1978) Rockford LCN member active in Beloit area 1930s-1950s, Born San Gregorio
Phil DiGiovanni (1954-) possible LCN restaurant front in Roscoe, Illinois 1980s
Domenico DiGirolamo (1893-1970) born Marsala. LCN associate
Joe DiGirolamo (1891-1965) born Marsala. LCN member
Pietro DiMichele possible LCN pizzeria front in 1980s South Beloit. Nothing known about him
Vito Gabriele (1936-1995) born Marsala. Possible LCN member and pizzeria owner
Michele Galluzzo (1941-2017) born Aragona. Along with Sal DiGiacomo owned Sam’s Pizza South Beloit
Natale Galluzzo (1936-) born Aragona. Owned property in South Beloit. Possible LCN member
Nino Germano (1913-2012) LCN associate/front owning The Manor which burned down suspiciously
Antonio Giacalone (1884-1959) born Marsala. LCN connected bootlegger in 1930s
Frank Giardono (1911-1954) family from Sambuca. Possible LCN member active in South Beloit
Pietro Girgenti (1950-2022) born Marsala. Possible LCN associate/front as a Roscoe, IL pizzeria owner
Sebastian Gulotta (1930-2000) LCN capo active Roscoe, IL resident
Andrea Ingarra (1951-) born Marsala. LCN associate/front in Beloit/South Beloit

A lot of Marsalese connections. Re: the "separate entity" report, sounds like some of them could have retained affiliation with the Sicilian mafia.

I would say after Aragonese, the Marsala people are the most represented in the Rockford area. For some reason most of the Marsala immigrants settled in Beloit, Wisconsin and South Beloit, Illinois where they still remain today. I have also talked to some 80+ year old Rockford area Italians who had said Vito Angileri, born in 1903 Marsala and came to Rockford in 1954 was a mafia member in Sicily before coming over, though he always lived in Rockford and not the Beloit area.
