Bobby Manna has been granted compassionate release

Post by Little_Al1991 »

The motion has been granted because, in other words, he has one foot in the grave. He has stage 2 lung cancer amongst 40 other medical conditions. He has also served 36 years.

The judge noted that Manna will be under 24 hour supervision of his guardians at home. He will be under house arrest. Interestingly enough, the judge also stated that Manna was the “Street Boss” of the Genovese family at one point, amongst other roles such as Capo and Consigliere.

The judge also noted that the conditions he has imposed upon Manna “render Mr Manna a dying prisoner in his custodians home”

Good for him. There is a reason it's called "compassionate" release.

This marks the first time that a member of the admin of an LCN family has received compassionate release

The law which allows for compassionate release has been in place since 2018

Christopher Furnari was released on a compassionate release I believe as well some years ago before he passed. Maybe I am remembering incorrectly but I believe he lived a couple more years give or take after his release.

Don't hold me to this but I think that might have been technically parole rather than compassionate release. Not sure though, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ivan…You could very well be correct on that. It might have been parole. I believe the judge in the ruling mentioned something about him not being involved with the murders in the commission case and ruled he had served an adequate amount of time. Again this was some time ago so might not be entirely correct.

Yeah it just looked like compassionate release because he was so old at the time, but as you mentioned it was because the evidence against him WRT the Galante murder etc. wasn't great and he persistently sought parole for that reason and finally got it at age 90.

He was released in 2014 and died in 2018 -- about four years later -- so that it does sound to me like "paroled when he happened to be old" rather than "paroled because he was old and dying". Though apparently there have been some cases of CR where the person released lived for longer, they usually die within 6~18 months.

(Of course his advanced age was probably a factor in the parole decision so it might not be so clear cut. But I do think it was just "parole" rather than "compassionate release" if you want to get super technical about it. Someone please correct me if this is wrong.)

He was paroled from federal prison due to his age and medical conditions. Had Furnari not been eligible for parole, he would have passed away in prison.

He was very fortunate whereas Manna was very unfortunate because his arrest occurred 1 or 2 years after parole was abolished. Had he been eligible for parole, he probably would have been released years ago

Whilst on technicalities, Manna hasn't been released on compassionate release. He's been confined to house arrest.

Released would imply free, which he is not.

Any idea who these 'custodians' are? I assume family.
