--From a historical perspective, for many decades OC/LCN groups in Springfield MA / Western MA have been aligned with the Genovese family. In fact, & until the mid-2010s, there was a succession of Genovese-backed oversight in Springfield, including the Scibeilli brothers, Al Bruno, and then Anthony Arillotta. After Arillotta became a cooperator, and through about the mid 2010s, the Springfield crew was reputedly being overseen locally by a combination of the Santaniellos (Amedeo, currently aged 85 & his son Ralph, currently aged 57) & Albert Calvanese (currently aged 61), a Santaniello relative. Eugene ‘Rooster’ Onofrio, a Genovese captain from New Haven, CT, was also reputedly in charge of this crew during that time, appointed as an acting captain.

 \--However, with Onofrio and Ralph Santaniello charged in a large East Coast OC/LCN case in 2016 and then both serving jail sentences associated with those charges, chaos seemingly ensued. SB reports, following that bust, from around 2016-2023/24, Calvanese essentially forced his relatives out of their leadership roles (Ralph was charged then jailed & Amedeo was reportedly on the outs with the Genovese after appearing in a photo with a gov’t witness). SB reports, however, that the 2016-2023/24 era of primarily Calvanese-only oversight of Springfield was largely independent and was not officially sanctioned or ‘co-signed’ by Genovese leadership in NYC.

\--When Ralph Santaniello was released from prison and seemingly off parole by about late 2023, and allegedly with Genovese backing (per SBs sources), he and his father then ousted Calvanese from his position & re-assumed control of the Springfield/Western MA crew (also taking advantage of Calvanese having been sidelined from a serious car accident).

 \--Similar to a recent article, SB continues to assert that the initial Genovese support for the Santaniello resumption of leadership of that crew has faltered (following a few concerns, including a meeting gone bad between Springfield elements & the Genovese admin and also Ralph apparently facing a serious medical illness over the past several months). As a result, and per SBs reporting, the Springfield crew is now again largely operating independently of the Genovese family and, as recently as a few months ago, SB suggests that the Genovese family has reputedly broken contact with OC/LCN elements in that region. SB speculates that, with Ralph’s health concerns, Amedeo is the ‘de facto’ leader of the now-independent crew.

 \--Regarding current tensions, SB also reports that there have been verbal altercations/threats, as well as even rumored physical altercations, that have occurred between remnant Santaniello and Calvanese factions that continue to operate in the region of late (these issues have allegedly taken place in debt collection spots, amongst other locales).

There's just no way that there's any serious enough money left in Springfield, MA to keep the interest of the Genovese family..too much exposure for them to take very small envelopes from Springfield if anything was going to them at all. There's no way they're making enough book or selling enough drugs for the West side to care.

If we're going to extrapolate post-Arillotta, SB's rendition of events is not illogical in terms of the players there and Santaniello's return. My impression is that the Genovese didn't seem too interested in collecting what they could have in the recent past, so now I certainly agree with Mr. White unless it means something to just retain turf.
