The Sicilian faction's Gambino takeover

Post by Ivan »

Okay I keep reading that the Sicilian faction took over the Gambino Family in the late 2000s in all the articles about the new case. People on the boards started saying this around 2010.

It's well known.

What doesn't seem to be well known is how and why this happened. Has this been detailed anywhere? The reason why it happened, why the family membership allowed it to happen, the actual machinations of the takeover, why the Gotti gang allowed itself to be displaced at the top of the family, all such details -- I've never seen anything laid out.

Is this info available anywhere?

Its been kinda dramatically overstated...but it has its origins with the Corrozzo and D'amico crews. Also the Antonio Inzerillo crew... the old Conte crew.....

I'm sure the researchers can give a comprehensive breakdown...

They will trace this stuff back to the early 20s maybe...

It's all really fascinating....

Was it ever settled if Cali was the actual boss? Forget title but his word carried over Cefalus?

Hard to say. Could've been like the Lucchese situation with Crea and Madonna where Crea was seen as more of the leader in the streets. Cali was the official underboss despite what some claim.

We talk a lot about Barney being a ghost but Cefalu as the boss might have him beat. There's next to nothing on the guy since he took over the Gambinos in early 2011.

It's actually been talked to death, kinda like Montreal and Buffalo. A lot of it by guys like me...lol

I will add in this... New Connection proved the Inzerillos maintained their status as a Mafia clan, bided their time, then regained their power in Sicily.

One of the things I still wonder about is Torreta in NY. Felice posted a list of the guys arrested with Ciccio Gambino. It was like 30 or 40 guys. Its enough to make you wonder at what point is it a decina of a sicilian cosche? If not officially, at least functionally.....

Sylvestro Davi is quite the interesting figure, we seem to have limited information on him. Calogero Davi too from the Luchesses...

Would he be considered part of the Gambinos Torreta faction? Is he part of the LUCHESSE Torreta faction? Are there 2? Or one? Is there a Torreta faction within the NY mafia as a WHOLE? Irreguardless of which family? To which Calogero is part of?

Or is there a Sicilian mafia faction within the American families, that permeates all the families? Cali seemed to be the central reference for Sicilian mafia members in operating in NY, in general.

With Borgetto, Partinico, Monreale having representation there, are they extending their sicilian families reach? Or have they become fully integrated into the American system?

How do all these sicilians always manage to be virtually unknowns and or stay so low key? Do they not work with any American made guys? Based on the latest indictment, it seems like they are all involved in the same rackets...
