- In 1943, he was working as a tailor at 293 1st Ave, Newark, NJ and was heavily involved in stolen ration stamps. He and his wife Jennie were living at 169 N 12th St, Newark, NJ.

- In 1950, he was made alongside Rocco Scafidi and Anthony Maggio. He was under Frank "Cheech" Barrale who was based out of the Bridgeton-Vineland area. They were both married into the Scafidi family.
(https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.htm ... elPageId=4)

- In 1950, he was living with his wife at 227 N 15th St, Bloomfield, NJ.

- In 1954, at his the time of his daughter's wedding, he was still living in the Newark area
(https://www.newspapers.com/clip/117658011)

- In 1962, the Dominick “Reds” Caruso murder is said to have occurred at his bar in Vineland so he was back in that area by then.

Considering Sam Accardi's ties to the Vineland area, it's really interesting to see that he was a walking distance away and also involved in ration stamps. Additionally, he would have been one of the first Philly members in Newark despite answering to a SJ based capo. Other than Caponigro, the rest of that crew wasn't made yet.

-------------------

At some point of time after Jan 28 1928, his last boxing match as "Kid Lightning", he moved to Gary, Indiana. His daughter Rosemary was born there on May 18 1929. He owned a liquor store at 3737 Broadway Ave, Gary, IN

He moved back to Vineland in July 1935
(https://www.newspapers.com/clip/117653234).
John Cappello Sr. (b. 1878) was living in North Jersey into the 1930s before moving to Philly and becoming a captain. Could have been a Gambino member who transferred as he was a paesan and employee of Giuseppe Traina but he's in the same category as Pietro Giallombardo in that he could have been a Belmontese member of either Family.

Perella was related to the Belmontesi in Philly too like you mentioned.

Cappello strikes me as a Gambino member. He was living in Union City; that area is largely commuters into NYC and it wasn’t really close to the area in North Jersey where the Philly Family later had a presence. Plus, there were the connections with Traina that you mentioned.

Giallombardo is a wildcard, could have even been with the DeCavs. My guess is that he was a predecessor to Trenton Gambino guys like Nicky Russo

This was Sam Passalacqua

SALVATORE PASSALACQUA
(Samuel, Sam, Blizzard)
DOB: Dec 25 1910
POB: New York, NY
F: Baldassaro Passalacqua
M: Dominica Fasina
Occupation: Contractor
Address: 4102 Westfield Ave, Pennsauken, NJ
Previous addresses: 1500 W River Dr, Pennsauken Township, NJ; 466 Benson St, Camden, NJ; 399 Clinton St, Camden, NJ
Death: Aug 1992

Both of his parents were from Borgetto, Italy. I don’t think that was a common origin for Philly members.

I don’t know what crew he was with. He had gambling arrests all over from Norristown, PA to Wilmington, DE

Does anyone know if Angelo Turco was alive in 1963?

Here’s a 1955 obituary for an Angelo Turco in Vineland, NJ. Three of his pallbearers were Angelo Bruno, Philip Testa, and Joseph Scafidi.

I could have the wrong one if multiple guys had the same name. If I do have the right one, it would mean that the people named by Rocco Scafidi were not new members.

I'm on the same page as you -- I've never believed that list from Scafidi were all "new" members but just names he newly identified as members for the FBI. From a post last year: viewtopic.php?p=235730#p235730

You have the right Angelo Turco.

I've had that feeling ever since I saw Sam Passalacqua mentioned as a member of the "Marco Reginelli gang" in a document from 1946.

I feel like Felix “Tom Mix” Bocchino and Louie Luciano could have been made earlier too.

Bocchino wasn't made until the early 1980s when Scarfo took over but Luciano is almost certainly the "Louie" identified by Scafidi as a member close to Caponigro and he likely was already made by 1962. He said too that "Tony Kiva" (maybe Verniero) was a Caponigro associate made in Trenton which would suggest he was one of the guys made in the Trenton ceremony a few years earlier.

John Girgenti Camden Camden Joseph luncheonette business FBI # 758354D
Joseph Girgenti Joe The Gent Camden Camden FBI # 536902

JOSEPH CARMELO GIRGENTI
(Joe the Gent, Girgente)
DOB: Feb 23 1915
POB: Camden, NJ
F: John Girgenti
M: Grace Ferretti
W: Lena Antonio
Occupation: Buyer - Grocery store
Address: 4024 Garfield Ave, Pennsauken, NJ
Previous Addresses: 537 Randolph St, Camden, NJ; 613 4th St, Camden, NJ; 323 Benson St, Camden, NJ
Death: Jun 2 1978
Family from Villalba, Caltanissetta, Italy

His father John was a major bootlegging figure who was arrested with early Philly member Biagio Passanante and Newark family figures like the Accardi brothers and Charles Matranga.

JOHN JOSEPH GIRGENTI
(Johnny Lane, Girgente)
DOB: Jul 14 1932
POB: Camden, NJ
F: Joseph Girgenti
M: Lena Antonio
W: Rita Cedrone
Occupation: Owner - Hickory House Restaurant [1336 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA]
Address: 1001 City Ave, Wynnewood, PA
Previous Addresses: 1501 Little Gloucester Rd, Blackwood, NJ; 4024 Garfield Ave, Pennsauken, NJ; 537 Randolph St, Camden, NJ; 613 4th St, Camden, NJ
SBI #: 95140B
FBI #: 758354D
Death: Apr 30 2019

John fronted the restaurant for Angelo Bruno. Also, he was Angelo Bruno’s godson and was godfather to his grandchild.

———————————

From what I can see, there was no relationship between these men and the Vineland Joseph Girgenti (B.1886) who was arrested with other early SJ members.

Yeah, Maureen was married to Thomas Peter Campisi. She “went missing” a few months before the Campisi group hit Louie Luciano.
