The ex-boss who gave info to the FBI that was never used was...the Big Guy himself, Al Capone. He was interviewed in prison for John Torrio's tax trial. Some of what he said was confusing due to his syphilis, so his testimony to the agent was deemed unreliable.Slick wrote:So who was the other boss Antiliar?

I guess this probably means Carlo was an informant too.

I didn't know that. Yeah he had no clue what he was saying. Thanks Antiliar.
Funk that is blasphemy, lol.
I doubt Accardo was an informant for the same reason I doubt Gambino could be. (I know you were being sarcastic Funk.) They both were just too damn insulated from the law from men who were old school Omerta, and over the years their reputations instilled fear in anyone who even thought about giving the G anything on them that could bring charges.
Re: Accardos possible CI
There was a story, I think it's from "Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses" by Paul Meskil (but I'm going by my imperfect memory, so I could be mistaken), that Gambino notified the police about a burglar or robber to have him sent to prison. Not a made guy, but someone he wanted put away. BTW, my copy is in storage, so if anyone wants to double-check, please do so.
Re: Accardos possible CI
Nick Piccolo, then a Philadelphia soldier, called the police to report a burglar at his 500 Club. The man was arrested. Several years later, Piccolo was promoted to capodecina.

I agree 100%. I've always believed the guy was an informant. Like you said, everybody but him gets indicted. Accardo had a few important friends in law enforcement and one would have to be very naive to assume he didn't have some sort of deal in play.Pogo The Clown wrote:In all seriousness though it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Accardo gave up some info to stay out of prison. It looks very suspicious that every top guy around him (Aiuppa, Cerrone, Battaglia, Carlisi, Aldersio, Alex, DiFronzo, Lombardo, LaPietra, etc) ends up in prison and he doesn't even get indicted in an era where every top guy in the country is going down.

Yeah, but he was semi-retired since the fifties and almost entirely so after he was acquitted in the dental scam case in the early eighties so it's not too extraordinary.
Re: Accardos possible CI
He must have been the most powerful semi-retired boss in the U.S.

HANG IT UP NICKY. ITS TIME TO GO HOME.
Re: Accardos possible CI
Rayray, he probably was the most powerful semi-retired boss in the U.S. If he wanted something done, it was done. Make no mistakes, from the late 70's on Aiuppa was boss and ran the day to day stuff, but when it came to decisions on major Outfit policy Accardo's wisdom was sought out and more than likely followed. When Aiuppa went to prison in the early 80's, two men went to California to see Accardo about running the Outfit, by June of 1986 both were dead. Accardo gave the OK.
