Yes that was the case. It was earlier than I thought.

Strange that Pittsburgh seemingly died off like that. They have plenty of Italians, a nice little Italy, close to the east coast, plenty of bookmaking money to be made. I guess the general economic decline along with attrition really took its toll on a lot of midwestern families.

Casinos and off-shore books took a big bite out of whatever action was left.

Relatively speaking, Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania has had a fair amount of gambling busts over the past 10 or 20 years. The Melocchi bust had sports betting, numbers and video poker.

The difference is, it's not being directed by, or done in behalf of, a formal LCN family. At best, it's former associates or descendants of deceased mob figures operating independently.
All roads lead to New York.

Totally agree. The long and short of it is that no one has to kick up like they did in the old days.

From what I understand Youngstown is pretty much the same as it always was, only you don't have Cosa Nostra guys lording over everything, and everyone is independent. So the crime is still there, just not organized, and you don't have the insane corruption-of-pretty-much-everyone thing you used to have in local government and law enforcement that was so huge. (There's also the legal/online/offshore factor you mentioned.)

Nor do you know anything else unless you are part of the Mafia and have inside information what remaining family members from these cities have done with ranks, members and associates. Who decides on this forum that no making ceremonies were held in the last 20, 10, 5 years? This self appointed overlord title on here is ridiculous.

Like what couple of "old wiseguys" left that would need or even want to rebuild?

Get ready for this: Michael's last guy made was Henry when he sent him to Youngstown to keep an eye on Lenny after he had Ernie hit.
There was also some question after Joey got shot. Turns out Michael was not involved with that one.
Keep in mind that one of Pittsburgh's biggest money makers, The All American Club was still up and productive.
Like what associates or sons of old wiseguys would he have made or even want to be made?
The last thing Michael wanted was any more Fed attention or adverse publicity.

Sonny had been having serious health problems for the last 3 years. Sonny’s key lieutenant for years was Jeff Risha out of Uniontown and Jeff died in 2016. Jeff was pretty much the overlord to Sonny’s gambling empire and he was very sick in the last 18 months of his life. Can’t imagine they were still making book in 2015.
