Ah, that makes sense. I know Dragna was demoted and shelved/chased. Thanks.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:44 pmB. wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:09 pmNot sure if the source on that was Piscopo or someone else but it's good info. Salvatore "Charles" Dippolito was from Baucina in Palermo and lived in San Bernardino like his son when he died. If he was consigliere it may have been under Giuseppe Ardizzone, who was from a village not terribly far from there.
I believe it was under DeSimone. Replacing Tom Dragna in 1956?. I have him dying in 1960.

He was deported and died before the FBI ever heard of "made" members, so I can only say that he was a suspected made member.

What happened to Jasper Matranga? Did he transferred membership?Antiliar wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:30 am Calogero Finocchio was an old-timer who was sent to prison in 1916 for killing a cop in Los Angeles. He was given life, but his sentence was commuted and he settled in San Diego. He was originally from Corleone. Died in the 1940s.
Gaspare Matranga may have been a member too. Not the former Chicago caporegime (Jasper Matranga), but the brother of the Tony Matranga allegedly responsible for the 1906 killing of Joseph Cuccia. He later settled in San Bernardino or Riverside and died in the late 1940s in an accident. Which reminds me, would be interesting to come up with a list of members who lived in the Inland Empire (Riverside and San Berdoo). If I was to guess, Tony Matranga may have been a caporegime for that area.

No, not the same. These two, SanFilippo and Catalano moved to San Diego in the mid to late 1930s.

Has anyone ever heard of San Diego bar owners Joseph and James Petrone? They're parents were Francesco and Rosaria Petrone, they moved to San Diego in the early 1900's. They were associated with Frank Bompensiero and possibly Leo Dia. Joe Petrone had several cab companys before going into the bar/restaurant business. The Plaza Coffee shop, Petrone's Steakhouse and the Chee-Chee Club are their most notable establishments. I haven't seen anything that suggest they were made but I am curious about the surname. I wonder if there's any relation to Giovanni "John Bennett" Petrone of the Bonanno Family.
Joe Bonanno seemed to have a interest in the San Diego area. Just trying to connect some dots. There is two photos of him with SD Capo Tony Mirabile. I find that to not be coincidental.

Haven't heard of them.
Looking at my original post, there are some corrections / new info on some of what I posted. Momo Adamo had also spent time in Springfield where his naturalization was witnessed by an important mafioso so he was probably a Springfield member as well.
LiMandri was likely with the Lucchese, Gambino, and/or Newark Families. Maybe first made into the Morello Family given his father-in-law and uncle was Giovanni Pecoraro, a likely admin member of that Family.
Probably other things too plus some other out of state members who lived in SD for a time.

Thanks for the posts B and did Frank Balistreri end up becoming the boss of Milwaukee? also was Frank an associate of Bompensiero? Did Licata have problems with Fratianno and Rosselli because they were working on his turf without paying him?B. wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:47 pm Haven't heard of them.

Re: LA Family San Diego Decina Info
One of the issues with Fratianno is that he tried to arrange a transfer to Chicago that later went unrecognized but during this period he was sort of in limbo where he, Bompensiero, and Roselli regarded him as a Chicago member but later when Licata investigated it, it turned out he was never officially with Chicago. So before Licata followed up on it he perceived Fratianno as an "outsider" trying to make moves in LA's territory.
The Frank Balistrieri who lived in San Diego was the famous Frank's uncle. Both of them were friends with Bompensiero, who was from Milwaukee and a paesan of them.

This is partly a joke and partly a serious question. How in the heck does a guy float around and nobody knows what Family he was in?B. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:22 am One of the issues with Fratianno is that he tried to arrange a transfer to Chicago that later went unrecognized but during this period he was sort of in limbo where he, Bompensiero, and Roselli regarded him as a Chicago member but later when Licata investigated it, it turned out he was never officially with Chicago. Thanks for your reply B and when did Bompensiero become the boss of the rackets in San Diego?B. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:22 am One of the issues with Fratianno is that he tried to arrange a transfer to Chicago that later went unrecognized but during this period he was sort of in limbo where he, Bompensiero, and Roselli regarded him as a Chicago member but later when Licata investigated it, it turned out he was never officially with Chicago. We don't know when he became the caporegime of San Diego nor if someone else was before him, but he was very likely capo in the late 30s/early 40sdavidf1989 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 2:07 amThanks for your reply B and when did Bompensiero become the boss of the rackets in San Diego?B. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:22 am One of the issues with Fratianno is that he tried to arrange a transfer to Chicago that later went unrecognized but during this period he was sort of in limbo where he, Bompensiero, and Roselli regarded him as a Chicago member but later when Licata investigated it, it turned out he was never officially with Chicago. Last year I wrote a article for my blog dedicated to the San Diego decina, maybe it can help you for some points (English version below the French) https://unehistoiredecrimeorganise.blog ... diego.html
Re: LA Family San Diego Decina Info
He said he became captain around 1951 as US Treasury agent Bill White congratulated him on it just days after the promotion. White was very close to Willie Moretti which led them to suspect Moretti was giving info so Bomp and Dragna met with Detroit and Lucchese leaders and Tommy Lucchese went to the Commission about it which sparked an investigation that led them to conclude Moretti was an informant thus he was killed.
It appears LA was doing some reorganization in the early 1950s as Fratianno was promoted to captain in LA during this period. They may not have had anyone in those roles when Bomp and Fratianno were promoted. If I remember right Nick Licata requested to remain direct with Jack Dragna because he didn't want to answer to Fratianno which suggests maybe all members reported to the admin until these guys were upped.
