Re: Speculation on Merlino's involvement in DiPietro hit
Let's not forget the timing of the hit.
During the trial of the acting boss, underboss, 2 capo's etc. An argument predicated by the prosecution being the threat of force to intimidate.
So context: Own car, daylight, same neighbourhood. With half the admin on trial basis the threat of violence.
And this was planned and okay'd?

Re: Speculation on Merlino's involvement in DiPietro hit
I find it very hard to believe that someone told him to use his own car and to leave the piece in the car for the cops to find in the name of public relations during the acting boss trial. Just leaving a body in the streets shows strength you don't have to leave your name and a business card at the scene for strength. Maybe that is a philly thing? In chicago they either make them dissapear like zizzo or do things like set the car on fire to kill all the evidence and the car is always untraceable.'Nicodemo was a stand up guy but c'mon. I get what your saying in theory doing certain things to prove a point but again what he did was just plain stupid he gave them the entire case guess we can agree to disagree on thistoto wrote:If you understand mafia you can see it is quite logical why they will use their own car and maybe even make it obvious they did the hit. If they control the area, the person is disliked, he's considered a rat then they will make it obvious they killed him to send a message. It shows they are in control and scares the hell out of anybody thinking of going against them. If they didn't get caught the news would be all over the area who did the hit and will make them stronger plus nobody will dare to testify against them.
It's a kind of public relations.

Your right makes no sense. So what Is your theory that nicodemo and grande were driving around one day with masks and a piece in the car saw this guy and decided to do an unauthorized piece of work at the drop of a hat? Nicodemo seems to believe in cosa nostra and the rules say why would he do this like that instead of doing it right when he knows he would be killed for doing this unathorized? Something is certainly weird about it this but I would not discount the idea that it was a completely sloppy stupid hit by a guy that maybe just got too comfortable and thought he can do anything and not get caught because he believed no on in the area would turn him inSonnyBlackstein wrote:Let's not forget the timing of the hit.

Yep, that's exactly it. It was planned in that it was premeditated and very likely approved by Nicodemo's superiors.bobbybats wrote:I think It was planned as in it was approved through channels and signed off on by Merlino. I think it was a take care of this as soon as you can. I think they came down the street saw the opportunity and did it. But I don't think it was planned as in how the military would plan a Seal team mission. I think they saw him, saw the opportunity to complete the work, came back around and did the job without thinking through the details. I also believe the counted on the neighborhood to protect them a little bit or rather counted on fear in the neighborhood protecting them a little bit.
I think SonnyBlack is getting "planned" confused with "well-planned". It was not a well-planned hit, but they had nonetheless planned to kill him in advance.

This could very well be it. I believe it was orignally theorized that this hit was not actually planned and that they saw DiPietro and just blasted him like you said.? A hit against him could have still been authorized but the actual killing itself maybe happened by chance?
The ski mask in the car could have been because of the snow in December. I think that is how his lawyer tried to spin it. Granted it is a pretty weak explanation.

This may be what makes the most sense they had the contract already, an opportunity presented itself suddenly grabbed a piece quick without doing the normal prep work, finding a work car etc....but at the end of the day.................. He still should have left the gun and grabbed the cannoli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Pogo The Clown wrote:bobbybats wrote:I think It was planned as in it was approved through channels and signed off on by Merlino. They got caught so it looks stupid. If they don't get caught they show a real authority in the area because they can kill and nobody says anything. Cosa Nostra doesn't just commit murders it usually sends a message. Sometimes making a guy disappear will send the message and sometimes hitting him and letting everybody know sends a message.Pete wrote:I find it very hard to believe that someone told him to use his own car and to leave the piece in the car for the cops to find in the name of public relations during the acting boss trial. Of course, it could be like others said, they saw a chance and took it.
Re: Speculation on Merlino's involvement in DiPietro hit
Thinking about how horribly planned this hit was....Nicodemo must have really lucked out on the Gongs hit.
Anyone know who the shooters are suppose to be on the Long John Hit?

Re: Speculation on Merlino's involvement in DiPietro hit
I know John "johnny Gongs" Casasanto supposedly bragged about being one of the shooters, which is one of the reasons why Gongs himself was killed. Not sure who else might have been a shooter or at least involved.

Yes he did. A neighbors survaillance camera cought 3 guy's going into Gongs house at the time he got killed. Lucky for them the footage wasn't clear enough to make out who they were.
Not sure about the shooters in the Long John hit. The Casasanto brothers (Johnny and Steve Gongs) were bragging about being the shooters but that could just be bullshit on their part. Anthony "Tony Ggs" Gagliardi was supposedly the getaway driver on it. Wasn't Nicodemo linked to this one as well?
