Im sure he changed it at Jackie's behest thinking it would look better amongst the greaseballs in Brooklyn when Jackie made his case of him. His birth mother was Italian. I don't think his birth father was ever tracked down. It was a hit and run so to speak. Mother didn't provide the fathers birth name. Merola is his birth mothers name. He was raised by the Knapik's (people that adopted him). He was raised middle class in NJ. Not around the mafia at all growing up. Was a drug dealer in his early twentys. That's how he met people in the life around bloomfield ave area.
I just saw another Alite interview. He is now up to 200 shootings 100 stabbings and 150 baseball bat beatings.

They have to lower their standards due to the ever shrinking recruitment pool.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

No, he took his birth mothers name in the early 2000's so he could get made, which he did in 03.
Correct. Why does everyone mix this up? His birth father was never tracked down as the mother didn't disclose it on the his birth certificate. His adoptive parents were in now way connected to OC. Merola went waaay out of his way to become a criminal.
Wasn't his mother herself adopted? Meaning she may not even be Italian herself.

I started a topic about it on the old board, but I have been curious about what these background checks entail. Back in the day they could easily ask around and find out where someone or their parents were from, and that's on top of the fact that a lot of guys had a lot more Italian cultural influence back then and even looked more Italian. Nowadays what do they do? Go to genealogy websites? It can be hard enough to sift through those even as a researcher. I can't imagine some 75-year-old capo sitting in front of a computer going through immigration records haha.

They call JD or Antiliar.
I would imagine if they know the prospect´s father, or grandfather, to be (or to have been) Italian, the prospect is half way in.
yea I know hill couldn't be made I just meant it seems its easy to get a button and some guys being made are half jerkoffs who could fuck up a cup of ice water.lol but I remain to be passionate about the mob.
you have reached the end of the line with me my friend!
I finally got around to watching this. Way better than most documentaries, though I wish it had focused less on Alite. He's gotten way too much attention because he has that "central casting" look and feel about him.
DiLeonardo is a really well-spoken, grounded guy who should write a book. It sounds like he picked up a lot about the history of the family despite being relatively young. Would be great to hear more about his grandfather, too.

like who? I don't know easy it is one has to be a decent earner or above decent to become a made man. If you have noticed in the last fifteen years or so the mafia has cleaned up on who they make. Of course mistakes will be made but dealing with criminals and socio paths it's always gonna be a little bit of a crap shoot on who's who. Not everyone can be an Anthony nicodemo
