Gigi, Beansie? Us Italians, I think we're the only ones that use nicknames to that extent.

Louis "Louie HaHa" Attanasio Jr. (born 1944 in White Plains, New York) is a New York mobster and reputed captain in the Bonanno crime family.[1] He is the brother of Bonanno mobster Robert Attanasio. Attanasio earned the nickname "HaHa" because he laughed whenever he heard about a mobster dying.

Sonny is another nickname also Casey. You will never find Sonny on the birth certificate. I can't tell you how many cousins and uncles I had with the nick name Sonny. Mostly because they had some horrible name their parents gave them in Italy like Cosmo or something. Lol

Cosmo is not a horrible name. But then I suppose it proves the truth of the proverb "Giuseppe today and Faruani tomorrow."

A lot of those nicknames are made up by journalists and aren't the real nicknames that their family or the Mob used. We should separate out the media-created nicknames from the ones they actually used.

Name - Media Nickname -Real Nickname -Alias
Vincenzo Gibaldi -Machine Gun Jack McGurn "Battling" Jack McGurn -James DeMora or DeMory
Alphonse Capone -Scarface -Snorky -Al Brown
Jacob Guzik -Greasy Thumb Jake Guzik -Jack Guzik
Francesco Raffaele Nitto -Frank "the Enforcer" Nitti -Frank Nitto -Ralph Nitto
Umberto Anastasio -Mad Hatter -Albert Anastasia -Albert Anastasia
Giuseppe Bonanno -Joe Bananas -Peppino -Joe Bonanno
Antonino Accardo -Big Tuna -Joe Batters, JB -Anthony Accardo, Tony Accardo
Simone Rizzo DeCavalcante -Sam the Plumber -The Count -Sam DeCavalcante
Salvatore Lucania -Lucky Luciano -Charlie Lucky -Charles Lucania
Francesco Castiglia -The Prime Minister -Frank Costello -Frank Costello, Frank Saverio

(I tried to make columns using the space bar, but it deleted the spaces when I posted this; maybe someone who knows how to create columns can fix this.)

Angelo lapietra was called the hook by the press but his real nickname was the bull

Joe andriacchi was called the builder by the press but was usually called just joey a or flapjacks

Jimmy inendino called jimmy I cuz his last name but press said it was for ice pick lol

Seems like any tony without a real nickname is "tough" tony

The clown was a media creation for joey lombardo but it caught on usually called lumbo or lumpy both plays off his name goudie said he was called lumpy from putting lumps on people's heads hahaha don't know where they get this shit
