Bonanno crime family street boss locked up
Bonanno crime family street boss locked up after feds catch him meeting with other mobsters
The Bonanno crime family may have lost its youth, but its wiseguys still have plenty of chutzpah. John Palazzolo, 77, a reputed street boss of the clan’s Bronx faction, got locked up Friday after federal law enforcement officials caught him meeting with other mobsters — a violation of his parole terms. The feds feared the old gangster was conspiring to take over Bonanno operations in Queens — which could possibly unleash a wave of violence among rival factions. Citing allegations of “a conspiracy to conduct a war to control the Bonanno crime family,” federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis ordered the ailing oldfella to jail pending a hearing next month. Palazzolo, who was released in 2012 after doing 10 years for attempted murder, is barred from associating with fellow mobsters.
But in past weeks, he was caught by surveillance having a suspiciously long meeting in the parking lot of a diner in Bayside, Queens with “Fat Anthony” Rabito, a consigliore of the Bonannos. He also met with a mafioso with ties to reputed mob boss Michael “Mikey Nose” Mancuso, who has three more years left in federal prison for a murder rap and is believed to rule the family from the inside.
Those pow-wows are in violation of Palazzolo’s parole, prosecutors said in court. “Is there still a leadership of the Bonnano family?” asked a puzzled Garaufis. “Unfortunately, yes,” said assistant U.S. attorney Nicole Argentieri.
A source said that Palazzolo had recently lost influence in the organization’s power structure and was about to take matters into his own hands. “He’s pissed,” the law-enforcement official said. “Once we found out, we had to stop it.” Defense lawyer Flora Edwards argued the run-in with Rabito could have been “a casual meeting” and pointed to her client’s litany of health issues. A resigned-looking Palazzolo, wearing track pants, a black hoodie and holding a plastic bag from Target, shuffled into the lock-up. “I thought someone’s who’s 77-years-old and has medical problems will be happy to live a quiet life,” the judge told him. He added that the power struggle involves another imprisoned mobster, calling it “one nightmare on top of another.” The Bonanno family has been working to replenish its ranks following dozens of convictions in the past decade, many obtained after its boss and underboss turned into rats and testified. New recruits and old timers are still engaged in loan sharking, racketeering and other illegal activities, said a source. “It never ends,” he added.

Interesting developements in the Bonannos. So Palazzolo is a "Street Boss" of the Bronx faction? I wonder what his actual rank is. They describe Rabito as a Consiglieri of the family but I'm not sure if this means the current Consiglieri or a reference to the time he was the Acting Consiglieri?

Is Palozzolo really a Bronx faction guy? If I remember correctly, he was under Tartaglione until he flipped. If he is, he must have been moved/transfered to be under Frascone recently. Is Frascone locked up? If the info given in the article above is correct, I would think he´s actually acting captain for the Bronx crew. I remember JD once posted about his older brother Wally also being made (possibly dead by now).

Ah, it actually makes sense. PJ Pisciotta (formerly under Basciano) was made acting captain in 2004 and took in all the guys who had previously been under captains who flipped. It´s possible that Palozzolo (who had been under Tartaglione) was under Pisciotta at that time and has kept his ties to the Bronx crew (faction), even though Pisciotta also flipped.HairyKnuckles wrote:Is Palozzolo really a Bronx faction guy? That could very well be it. I guess "Street Boss of the Bronx Faction" sounds sexier than Acting Capo of a Bronx Crew.

I'd like to know how "he lost his influence" and who the other "imprisoned mobster" is that he wanted to take out?

Fat Anthony Rabito has been around a long time and I remembered him from the Donny Brasco days. He's done a lot of time and hasn't flipped.

Could this mean there is still a Bronx-based Bonanno crew and that he's running it?

Just my two cents.

I don´t know, but there is a lot of confusion surrounding this story.
“a conspiracy to conduct a war to control the Bonanno crime family,”
Does this sound believable? In my opinion, it seems the 77 year old Palazzolo is suffering from schizophrenia and/or paranoia and/or being a nutcase in general if he thinks he can start a mob war in this day and age. The only other explanation would be that LE is spreading misinformation in order to stir up some shit among the Bonannos. Will be interesting to follow this and see what happens after the hearing next month.

Exactly. It sounds like like a tremendous crock of shit, or law enforcement fishing and tickling the wire through a third rate journalist. I ain't buying it.HairyKnuckles wrote:I don´t know, but there is a lot of confusion surrounding this story.

Re: Bonanno crime family street boss locked up
And the other thing you have to realize is that the Bonannos were always a very distant fourth in the Bronx to begin with, behind the Westside, Luccheses and Gambinos (the Colombos have always been practically non-existent here).Hailbritain wrote:I think the Bronx faction died with the death of patty defillipo , the jailing of basciano and the spiritos
They made some noise after Sciascia got popped and Fat Patty got his own crew, then you had Vinny and his problems in the papers for a few years. But other than that, the power seems to have shifted completely back to Queens and the Island. Even when they were calling the Montagna kid the acting boss, he was invisible around here.
So again, I'm caling bullshit on the entire story. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Re: Bonanno crime family street boss locked up
I assume he lost his influence when he got a 10 year sentence and that imprisoned mobster is most likely Tommy d who is from the queens faction he was supposedly trying to take over. With Tommy going away for a while their is a vacancy.willychichi wrote:I'd like to know how "he lost his influence" and who the other "imprisoned mobster" is that he wanted to take out?
The jist of it makes sense.....Mancuso is away for a few more years and the acting boss just got sentenced to a couple years, someone is going to make a play for leadership role. The whole thing about a war is journalistic sensationalism just like the terms 'street boss' and 'faction'.
